Now that we completed the 3D base model of our fantasy sword, it's time to start adding the details. We will be using several tools to add details to our weapon, including quad draw, mirror, extrude and more.
There's lots to cover, so let's start creating!

For figuring out which direction to scale in to flip something (x, y, or z) I like glancing down at the axis in the bottom-left corner, whichever is horizontal is usually the way to negative scale!

you should probably explain each thing you do like how you grab the whole line edge after using quad draw (the second time using quad draw is what i mean) otherwise people will get lost int it trying to figure out you did that.

Nice video! But i have a question... making weapons like this, can I use them as assets in games? Or they have a lot of polys and verts? Thanks!
@AcademicPhoenixPlus
@AcademicPhoenixPlus 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use this in a game. Maybe a bit high poly so I would create more details using textures. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the great tutorial again! I am new to 3D modeling so I have many questions... Like can you use this for a game? For a game shouldn't it be one single object? Aren't those too many vertices for a game?! (You may have noticed I am pretty interested in 3d modeling for games... actually I want to create some stuff for Warframe)
@IshrakAbedin
@IshrakAbedin 4 жыл бұрын
Your approach for modeling for a game would be slightly different. You would want a single object, but you can easily combine all the parts into a single mesh. Most inorganic objects are actually combination of multiple objects. This design was done to be used inside a discrete rendering system, not a game engine. That is why some designs are done keeping smoothing effect in mind. For game, those small designs that are attached to surface are generally done using normal map. If you think your weapon is very important and will get insanely close shots at some points, in that case, you will have multiple meshes and cycle through them based on render distance using something called LOD or Level of Detail. And generally a complete or partly retexturing is done within the game engine for the texture part. But mostly for most objects, actually multiple meshes are designed based on LOD level. I don't really know how Warframe take things from steam community, but they would themselves perform some modifications and retexturing to support the game logics, those changeable emission and energy colors, effects, rigging, blood smears and many other things. But in short, keep vertex and geometry count low, keep UV proper, put as much design as u can through normal maps.

Awesome tutorial! I want to ask however that how do we merge all the parts into a single object? like all the details using the quad draw and separate parts of the sword and everything
@user-fp3le7mp3p

my response over year late and might be better method or she explains it in one of next steps but my personal assumption is use this form a base then using quad draw would go over the whole thing to make one mesh.
