Thanks to ASUS for sponsoring this video! Check out their ProArt Studiobook Pro 16 OLED (W7600) laptop for on-the-go creation: asus.click/w7600_oled_YT
In this video I'm gonna show you how I made a looping snowy landscape for free, using Unreal Engine 5, Quixel Megascans, and Davinci Resolve. I've been basing a lot of my renders on personal trips and adventures, so this one is inspired by a rare hike, when Mt. Baldy (in Southern California) actually got snow.

I can't help but shake my head at certain things. You click buttons like volumetric fog and move on say 'yeah it looks cooler'. When I was using lightwave back in the mid 90s any volumetric stuff would increase render times by multiple orders of magnitude. It still boggles my mind the level achievable even in the preview window!

wish C4D and Octane's volumetric fog was up to Unreals, they increase render times by 1000 and are barely useable in animation sequences (and I'm running 4 x 3090s and latest Ryzen threadripper pro)

Thank you again for teaching me so much about 3D rendering. I am not creating my first 3d render thanks to your teachings, I have to say without your insight this would still feel like pure magic (It still does kind of ;P ) I would not be anywhere close to what I have without you being willing to teach us all. so again, thank you for all you do!

Amazing video, loved it. For the map creation part in ue5, the only thing that comes to mind that you’re not taking advantage of (or showing) is the modeling tools, they are super useful to quickly change the pivot, warp some of the trees, cut part of meshes that are clipping out in the lego process, mirror an object etc, Just knowing you can easily do some of those things quickly in real time gets your mind running on what else you can tweak your scenes.

i have been watching you and Corridor Crew for years. I have learned a lot from you guys and Unreal has been on my bucket list as a filmmaker and VFX artist for a while. I have been producing the entire first season of my Vampire series - Martyrs - The Chronicles of Blood. Originally I was going to film minature sets of castles, landscapes and towers, however my sponsor dropped out and so digital set pieces are my option at this stage. I will be watching your channel religiously over the next year as I tackle this daunting task. Thank you for creating this channel. I feel confident I may actually get through everything because of you. No pressure. ha ha.

Few things I learnt while learning Unreal this year (may be specific to UE5) 1. There is another option in the Actors menu called Mergre Actors - this option does the same thing a Convert to Static mesh but if you have multiple sections you want to texture differently it will keep them all separate. The Convert option only does this if they are already textured, and even then if they're using the same texture then they get combined too. Using both can make texturing complex objects much simpler. 2. The Pivot offest option only sets the point on that instance and can still be reset back to the actual origins of the mesh. If you go into Modelling mode there is a Pivot option in one of the sections which allows you to permanently alter the pivot point of the base static mesh. So if you now add from the content drawer again the pivot will always be where you set it. And finally although its not directly UE related - LEGO is always an adjective. So LEGO bricks, LEGO elements, LEGO sets, etc. Never, ever "legos."

This is great! Thanks for the awesome video. I'm trying to create a horror game in 2023 with UE5. I've been developing it all this year, learning as much as I can. I want to make it semi realistic and heavy focus on the story. I've also been reading up about how to write a compelling story so the player can come out of the experience terrified, but also moved by my characters and world building

@pwnisher You should look into Level Instances, super easy to use. But then you could easily duplicate your entire level out to loop, then you'll still have the ability to very easily make changes to the source level without needing to make the change multiple times!

Thank you for the content I subscribed to your channel. I am currently in school for 3d modeling and animation, and attempting to make some original content for my reel before I graduate( in roughly a year). I am trying to learn the fastest way to: create a model with a character sheet, rig it( thanks for the tip in the video), and animate it in a custom environment. The character creation is fine, but attempting to create an environment that automatically interacts with my characters animation is difficult. I just don't know enough yet to do it quickly. Back to grind it's not going to learn itself. Look forward to your next video hope you enjoyed the holidays.

2023: Trying to learn UE properly. I had an incredible boost in creativity a week ago when I got a job to do a nice and well-contained still-image viz of an industrial thing, and I decided to just pull the baind-aid off and go with Unreal this time. I didn't look back. It's incredible. The only thing that's a bit worrisome is that the development goes so fast and the changes are so huge between certain versions that you can't really know what to use from old viz tutorials in Unreal. Baking light is gone, that much I know, but keeping up with all the other minute details that have changed between 4 and 5 is kinda hard. Like, displacement in materials is gone now? At least on the Megascans stuff? What's up with that? Anyway, really appreciate your videos, and the content of the other pros out there, they have been a huge help. Merry Christmas from Sweden.

Amazing tips and tricks, really getting into Unreal myself, unfortunately on about day 21 of my journey (last week) my 5950X, 16 core CPU just up and DIED for some unknown reason 😭 and I hadn't used it for a year, but it was out of warranty so that (and because the mobo also failed) was $800 down the drain! 😢 Couldn't afford a new one, so had to get some cheaper bits, but I'm really looking forward to learning Unreal 5 and I'm starting with learning from your amazing woodland render! I'll be bringing in some plant or stone objects that I scanned (or will scan) myself in the England, maybe some props and some SoundFX I'll record later, wish me luck!!

Corridor crew did some videos before where they had a contest to make the most satisfying video. You guys used looping to do that. You should have made the figure walk around in a circle or a figure 8 and then start over again. Making the figure walk up some windy, snowy road would be cool Seems like a quick way to add some variation to the video.

Your scenes never disappoint. This stuff is what made me switch engines to unreal use though I use a more game development oriented laptop with active touch screen to reduce my required tdp and desk space. I use an Asus rog 16x flow amd5 with gpu PC if you do art with pressure sensors like zbrush and blender an active screen is a must if you reduce power as an eco person with hybrid solar controllers tdp matters to me that said ppl who draw and use unreal5 need to be aware of that awesome PC to make stuff like this one at a more much manageable level. Though that dial on laptop looks neat it be annoying if you want also game on the work laptop. I expect that laptop is around 4grand too the one I use is like half that in cost. I priced most workplace pics better then my laptop as an easy 3grand starting range with an over 300 wat tdp. Over all nice project also have you seen the guy who made a short film fully with ai applications it be neat if you tried something on the scale assets an see if his work flow might work if you tried an experimental set with ai made sound and all that too if your interested in what solar hybrid controllers look up Eg4 it's crazy tech their alloyed me to run fully off grid and make game cc..
