Looks like kneaded eraser. Possibly the Faber-Castell brand, but there are other brands out there, too.

Is it possible to rub pencil lines out after the paint dries? Do artists do that?

Yes, if they are not covered in layers of paint. It is difficult to remove lines once you’ve painted over them.
