Beautiful result and so helpful to see the layering/glazing and how you pick out the shadow shapes. Thank you!

I just love that sketch of the at minute 1.26. If you could do more like that in your school, that would be so great!! Thank you!

This was super helpful! I often have problems adding backgrounds that will support and not distract from my subject matter and this helps clarify that. Thank you!

I need to make myself do thumbnails in spite of my impatience to create a finished painting. I think it will pay off.

I recently took a class done by Alain Picard on soft pastels. He stresses that planning out your painting is the true key to success. He has several steps and a complete method for doing this but thumbnails are an integral part of this process and my work has improved because of it! Lay it out, thumbnails, color study, these are good starting points!

I’m going to be giving thumbnails a try before doing my paintings. I have never given them a thought before and I see exactly how they are very beneficial in making a great painting. Thank for your helpful advice & suggestions Emily 🥰!

I’m going to try this technique the time I paint from a photo. I always try to include as much as I can, but you’re right, I can use my imagination. Also, that looks like La Jolla, am I right?

I just got this set and I think they must have listened to your advice as they changed the colors. For my yellows, i got lemon yellow and cadmium yellow hue, and for my blues I got ultramarine and cerulean blue hue. They added the paynes grey but still kept the white. I would rather have pink instead of white. I love all of the other colors though, and I do have a tube of permanent rose so I think I will switch the white out for that one.

Emily, what brand tape do you use. I have tried so many and they rip, even if only on a short time.

Northern California and Oregon haystacks are wonderful subjects. I find that I exaggerate the breaking surf on the rocks but who is going to tattle on me. Though I have a stand up easel and also a tripod I usually paint small enough to hand hold my sketchbook.

The only thing is the rounded edges which I hate and ruins this whole idea for me, removing the look of paper, creating an artificial feel, that will not look good for float framing at all. Raymar does have proper angled edges. Also, with it being backed to a panel, there is no way of double checking if the oil paint paper holds up and that not anything seeps through, although it says it will, it is leaving it completely on trust. These two things are the only things that holds me back from this, or I would go all out and buy 50 pieces of the biggest size.

Enjoyed the real time tutorial. Can you show how you use your brush to wet the paper. Do you wet and rewet the entire paper. Do you use the same palette of colors for all your paintings? Thank you.

Instead of Cotman I'd recommend van Gogh as a beginners watercolor brand. I started with Cotman and thought I wasn't able to mix colors the right way.
