Yeah… I’m not sure how this would be a click away from achieving full cloth Simulation, maybe it’ll be like retargetting which now in UE5.4 it is, literally a click of a single button (not in every case mind you, but still better than what we had one version prior to this one). I am certain they’d simplify the steps in their own miraculous UNREAL way… 😉

Woah, 😦 thank you 🙏 so much for that! I’m trying to understand the exact lag you are referring to, the next video coming will be showing the areas I’m tackling to avoid and fix different issues, so you’d might find a solution then

Good job on this. The big issue is of course that the default dataflow graph doesn’t support proper layer specific work or the new kinematic collider - which is where the really high quality stuff happens. And currently no one can get it to work 😂 we all just have to wait for project talisman I guess

I knowwwww!!! I’m literally just trying to work Kinematic Collider version for that same reason, cylinders and spheres are cool and all but bruh! I want the real thing 😆, my brain is all dried out now!!! Plus, I cant figure a node to connect 2 Collection connections into one (2 nodes into a Sim self collection node). Probably need a break…

Cheers my friend, very appreciated 💙. This would definitely work with custom models and cloth from sketchfab only the first node should be static mesh import instead of USD import and you’d direct it to your desired mesh object. Mind you, the actual cloth properties, you’d create them yourself which isn’t a big deal 👌

Thank you 🙏 this mesh is a simple cloth model, not a proper structural fabric design, the purpose was to show how UE5.4 simulation works. There’s another tutorial coming up showing how to simulate layers

Hey cool tutorial, just concerned with the end result, there seems to be alot of clipping is that fixable or will we need to wait for future updates on this software/plugin?

Thank you. I’m aware about the clippings, there are tweaks you can do, there are more videos coming out soon, one of them is to simulate the clothes in a layer manner and it’ll provide more accuracy. As it is now with the method shown here, maybe bringing the outfit in separately and be more precise in the clipping areas would be a solution? There are different creative ways to minimise the clipping if self collision isn’t providing the wanted results

Amazing tutorial. I'm stuck a bit at importing my FBX into MD. Somehow the body's orientation is off, laying flat in the face, though I reset everything in AE, as described and running the trial of the newest MD. Thanks!

Cheers! If your FBX is rotated wrong it was probably the channel up was off, usually DCCs have Y up and UE has Z as the up instead, so I would check the FBX you exported and see if it is Z or Y up and go from there...

This is great, thank you for the tutorial! I have a question though; Is it possible to render the cloth simulation with MRQ? Or there is still that issue with the temporal AA that makes the simulation go crazy? This is a big issue that has been there since 4.26 or so...

Cheers, I really only tried rendering to MP4 with a mesh that was made cloth (not from MD) and it worked with no issues. The only times the cloth went crazy on me were if I press Play game instead of simulate and if I import a mesh that I use as chaos cloth object with scale attribute higher than 1.0 (required me to freeze transformation prior to exporting it from Maya)

@@Goblination-UE5 Did you render it to mp4 with the legacy render? Currently there is a bug with this if you use the MRQ and from what I am gathering they haven't fixed it in 5.4, I still need to test it out, I am using 5.3.2.

Thanks for the tutorial! Epic said you could use the kinematic mesh for the collisions, why not using this instead of having to mess around with the collision shapes?

Yes Kinematic mesh is definitely an alternative way, I am actually covering this on another video coming up, you are right. Also it opens up layer as well so you’d have more complicated clothing garments interacting 👌

Yes, you need this specific version which came out I believe at the same time UE5.4.1 this is the version you are looking for - 2024.0.173 (r48386). Get the Demo from MD website and test it

Thank you for this! I'm still having issues because my mesh uses morph targets. It's creating issues with the skin weights as well as the physics asset. Are there any steps to take to fit that?

Hmm, interesting! Are you using Mesh Morpher? There’s a new video coming out in a day or so that I’m showing a different collision method. The cloth treats the skin weights as dynamics so it might work for you 🤔

I'm exporting the mesh skeleton FBX to Maya, using a blend shape to create morph targets, and then importing the new mesh skeleton into UE and linking it there. It's been working in all other regards, but when using chaos cloth, I have the mentioned issues. Is Mesh Morpher a plugin? I'm also very new at this...

@@emregul4965 When you export the FBX from your 3D software, I use Maya, so, before exporting, I make sure I select it and I preform Cleanup, so it will fix and 5 edge face, any weird and not welded vertices and such. I also triangulate the mesh usually (cleanup will do it automatically anyway), I also delete faces that act as a double layers (rim of a sleeve or neck area). I then export that as FBX. Usually that solves the crashes for me

Thanks for this tutorial. Please do similar but start with Artstation and bring some garments in from there. You can get a bunch of clothes for $5. Zahra3D is very good.

If you did export USD from an older version of MD make sure it’s one piece, welded and not the separated option, import the USD into your project like you would normally into your content browser, import it into a new folder since it is importing 3 folders or so for mesh, materials, one thing would be static mesh of your clothes. Now in Chaos Cloth, the USD node, replace it with - ‘static mesh import’ node that would start it all instead and direct it to the static mesh that was imported from the USD you’d exported from MD

What do you mean? Did you activate the Plugin in UE? Look for Chaos Cloth plugin in the Plugins section, check it to on and restart engine

We do not have to use MD at all!!! The new video coming out shows just a normal FBX clothing out of Mixamo with Cloth Simulation 🤩

I'm using Marvelous Designer 2024.0 , but the USD import is not working for me. You mentioned that there's another way to import, can you please share that?

What issues do you get with the import? It’s probably not the correct version of MD that you are using, the latest one was released just at the same time UE5.4 was released. Check your version inside the software, this is the version that would work in the import as USD - 2024.0.173.48386 the numbers after 2024.0 should be 173… Anyway, you could just import an FBX

@@SoumikProduction that tells me you don’t have the proper Marvelous Designer version, I’d just export the clothing as FBX from MD, make sure it’s welded and single mesh when you export. In UE, import the mesh you got from MD, when in Chaos Cloth, use import static mesh and give it the FBX u just imported into engine. The rest do what is in the video
