love this tutorial, definitely gotta try this out! would you be able to make a tutorial about grading clips that are backlit with a lot of sun flare? i’m struggling to get good contrast on those clips. i always end up having way too much contrast and having my subject (midtones) too dark, or the whole image looks like i raised my black point really high and makes it faded if i try to just bring up the midtones

Learned a new Dehancer Filmlook combination. Kodak Vision3 500T + Kodak 2383. Can you please do a video on using the Film part and the Print part? Which Profile go well together with Kodak and Fujifilm Print

Kodak Vis3 500T + Kodak 2383 is a great combination. I will be doing more Dehancer film combination tutorials in the future. Next one will be on a nice vibrant FujiFilm combination I found recently. Thanks for watching!

Nice video! Side note if you right click on the clip of the screen recording you used and click "bypass color management" your screen recording will look normal and not so dark as I'm guessing you are in davinci wide gamut. Which is great for video but not needed for screen recording.

Thanks for the tip! Wasn’t sure why this one came out so dark.

@@george.colorist Yay!!! Another useless video of the "ghost" version19 that I've only recently entered beta 2 and there is no official release date for the official version... But of course, this video is super useful, but only for enthusiasts and KZbinrs who have nothing else to say, teach about the current version... Editing professionals and producers are not paying attention to the beta version, we don't even want know that... But this is for the professionals, of course! Hold that DISLIKE with your heart!

Hi, I have one basic question and would like to know a pro's / your answer. Basically color correction is a non-creative process that is crucial and needs to be done BEFORE grading right? But what exactly does your color correction -> color grading workflow look like if you simplify it - especially when working with an overall look? Do you transform to rec709 / normalize all the clips and color correct them and then apply the look? Because color correcting a clip with a look already in place seems to be useless because your colors are already shifted. Sorry that this has no connection to this video but this would help a lot.

Good questions. Here are my thoughts: Workflow Approach: Transforming to Rec.709 (or using Color Space Transform in Resolve), followed by color correction, and then look creation is a common workflow. However, this can vary. Some color grading techniques allow you to jump directly into look creation without initially adjusting primary exposure, white balance, or saturation. This approach depends on the artist’s experience and the specific project. Streamlining Color Correction: Color correction can be streamlined using color space transformations or Resolve Color Management (RCM). If the footage is well-shot, minimal adjustments, such as white balance tweaks, may be needed during the color correction process. Redundancy of Color Correcting with a Look: Color correcting a clip that already has a look applied is generally redundant unless there’s a specific reason for doing so, such as addressing unique issues or refining a particular aspect of the footage. The more you understand color and develop your technical skills, the more confidently you can decide when to go straight into look creation or stick with a more structured workflow. Whether a method is appropriate or efficient depends on the project and the artist. Hope this helps.

Question on IRE, you said skin tones should be between 128 and 768 and the graphic said 20-70. Why are the Davinci Wavevform monitor and the IRE values different and would you be able to share the conversion of all of these levels?
@george.colorist
@george.colorist 2 ай бұрын
You can change the scale in the waveform settings (3 dots on the top right of the video scopes panel). The default one is the 10-bit scale (0-1023) so thats why the numbers are different. To see the 0-100 scale, set the Waveform scale to Percentage.
