You took one “subject” (a flowering Magnolia tree) and created many satisfying images. And “shooting throw” plastic bags was a bonus! I found this video gently inspiring. Thank you Liesl.

Thank you for the inspiration! I immediately started looking in my backyard for suitable subjects and found a fuzzy dandelion in the garden. After combining that with some red leaves from a climbing vine, I was able to capture some amazing images! Question: Do you like to do focus stacking? If so, what software do you recommend? I use Helicon Focus 8 and it does a wonderful job of combining my photos so that every part of the flower that I want to be in focus is sharp and crisp.

These are very much the kind of photos I would be proud to take. Natural, hand held and not over edited. You must have a very steady hand to hold the flower and petal in place. As a beginner I am trying to get to grips with my dslr settings. May I ask please if you shoot in manual? I have 70-300mm lens also extension tubes and look forward to experimenting now I've seen your video. Thank you for sharing your tips.
@LieslHuddleston3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Julia! Yes, I am very lucky that my hands are steady (for now!) Enjoy this time as a beginner, it is so exciting to play and experiment with your settings and compositions. Yes, I almost always shoot in manual mode, I will rarely use auto ISO in manual mode if I'm trying to capture birds or moving subjects in changing light. I know it is tricky to get used to manual settings, but keep trying and you will eventually get used to it - I still make lots of mistakes, but I always do better when I practice a lot! :D
@juliabyczynski32533 жыл бұрын
@@LieslHuddlestonI usually shoot on aperture priority and with my ISO at 100 or 200. I should experiment more though if I am to advance. Need to practice more than I do. It is an exciting time but very very frustrating sometimes.
@LieslHuddleston3 жыл бұрын
@@juliabyczynski3253 You know, if you are happy with the results you see on your live screen when you take a photo and it is working with whatever settings you're using, like aperture priority etc., then I see no problem with that. If you work on being creative with your compositions and try to tell a story with your photos, (that isn't always possible, but you can try) then that is the most meaningful part. It is good yes, to learn to use ISO, Shutter speed and Aperture in manual mode, so that you know how to change them if you are not happy with a certain photo in an auto setting. But it all depends on the time you have at hand and how you feel your results are turning out :)

Hello, David! I am just now seeing your comment :) I hope you are enjoying some good weather and time out with your camera and lenses. You are so right, you can enjoy every camera and every lens.
