that's totally cool Steve! I have several mamod steam engines my granddad gave me. We get them out once in a while and fire them up. Never thought of hooking a generator up to one! We've timed one of them at around 1800 rpms so I can see why they'd be up to the task.

If I remember Mamod Steam engine were made in England. That is so cool you have that from your Granddad, very special and it still operates. It was a fun project and thought the smoke would look like steam. Thank you John for your comments.

…one more thing, I’ve never thought of using the flywheel itself for the band to power a generator. It would get more spin out of the dynamo. Thanks for the idea.
