In Inkscape 1.3 in "Generate from path" --> "Extrude" there are 3 optioms: Lines / Polygoms / Follow curves (each with a possible toggle "Combine lines to path) unfortunately none of them give the result you show in the video EDIT: There is a function called interpolate, that does the job well.

This is great. The version of inkscape I'm using I had to choose follow curves instead of polygon when extruding. Edit: nvm polygon works too it's just that the nodes weren't where they should be for it to extrude a line where I wanted. As long as I add a node the center of the 2 rounded corners and then duplicate the item etc it works.
@maxmeier5322 жыл бұрын
Is there another way to do connect the corners without the extrude function? It's a huge pain in the ass to do it like that even if it worked (which it doesnt in my case). That seems like an unnecessary workaround for an obvious function. Inkscape doesnt offer that? Something that EVERYONE needs ALL the time? I am just now looking at illustrator sub prices and while it's pricey, I'll give it ago. From the videos I have seen, it does the everyday function easily without 10 extraclicks.

@RG-sv4qb Жыл бұрын
Doing this July 2023 - was struggling with the extruding not giving the same results, only 8 new objects created, not 12. So after a bit of fiddling reaslised that my large rectangle with rounded corners didn't have nodes at the apex of the curve, so if you select all the points then use the "add node" button, it'll add in extra nodes at the "apex", and then you can proceed.
@rkelly62 Жыл бұрын
I am having the same issue in 1.3. I think this is a bug with path effects or rounded corners. I am also noticing a lot of bugs with rounded corners, like when I union an object to a rounded corner to create the extruded look, even if it is lined up, it sticks out a bit with an extra node. If I delete that node, I lose the rounded corner.

Very nice insight into isometric grids and extruding objects. I hope the Inkscape people come out with an actual extrude function like in Corel Draw or Xara Designer, soon. Question: During the extrude process, you shift-clicked on the segments you wanted to keep, but when you hit Delete, it deleted the unwanted segments. Is that correct or do you have to invert selection before you hit Delete? Question: When creating the Chat Buttons, you started with squares and turned them into ellipses. Could you not have started with ellipses and skewed them? I am still getting used to Inkscape 1.0 and this was a very good instructional video.
@LogosByNick4 жыл бұрын
1.) There is no inverting selections in Inkscape like in GIMP. When I ungrouped the objects, they were all selected. Shift-clicking an object deselects it. So basically I just wanted to deselect the objects I want to keep so that I can easily delete the rest. 2.) Creating ellipses and skewing them doesn't produce the same result unfortunately. It distorts the rounded corners.
@behramcooper36914 жыл бұрын
@@LogosByNick thanks Nick. All clear now.

When I used the extrude on the cell phone it worked great but for some reason when I use the extrude on the speech bubble, it resizes top object really huge and extrudes it really far away. Is that a bug in version 1.0?

I'm having this exact same problem. I tested with a cube and an elipse oriented in the same direction as the speech bubble and worked propperly, but the bubble shape still came out disastrous with the back shape projected far from the rest elements.

@@AlexCasadiego Try this, it worked for me and I don't know if it was luck or not but I copied the speech bubble right before the extruding step into a new document and did the extruding there and it worked then I copied it and pasted it back into the original document where the cell phone was. One of the components shown on the old circuit board is a vertical rectangle. I have drawn the base with the Bezier Curve tool, but when I try to apply the path effect "Corners..." it only will do 3 and not all 4. I thought I figured it out. I was disheartened why it was doing the same thing.
