I'm really excited to share with you a really simple technique to speed up your renders. The great thing is that it doesn't only apply to Cinema 4d renders but also to a lot of other third party render engines. Enjoy!

This is a great tutorial! Is there any way I can set Cinema 4D render multiple renders of the same frame? Then this would be perfect.

This technique is freaking amazing, I had no idea that this technique was so powerful. Thanks for sharing! Question: what is the name of Google's free plugin? "Define"? I googled this but didn´t found anything. PS: nevermind, I just saw another one of your videos and found the DFine 2 plugin. Thanks! Thanks again.

+Wesley Martins da Silva Glad you enjoyed it! You can search for Nik Collection. It's a bundle of plugins that were published by Nik Software but then they were bought out by Google and the Nik collection plugins were released as freeware. The whole collection is really good but unfortunately is not maintained. Dfine is good but Noiseless is much better. So if you have a mac and are willing to spend some money do that! Alternatively you can use Photoshop's Surface Blur which basically smoothes out surfaces while maintaining details.

You should have made another set of comparison images, of same render time with stacking and without it. Cause maybe you can render just for 12minutes and use same denoiser and get similar results as stacked image. Without added clutter of files and extra post processing steps.

I just tried this at various physical render settings. It works but I didn't get significantly reduced render times. In fact, 1 frame of physical's default medium settings took almost half the time of 15 low setting renders set lower than Physical's low default settings (7.3 min). The quality was about the same. So I think this is only useful if you want to match Physical's high settings (16m 37s) which I rarely use, and you would still need a de-noising filter. From what I gathered, just doing a medium render with the filter would be faster but I don't have one of these filters to know for sure. Great tutorial though, I had no idea that this technique could be used for 3D renders.

Hey Mike. Glad you enjoyed the video! You benefit the most from image stacking when your renders go on for a long time. And definitely when you're using purely reflectance based rendering! For renders that complete fast I would just stick to the regular rendering methods. The killer combo is image stacking along with noise reduction software! If your renders benefit the most from noise reduction definitely invest in that! The software is relatively cheap so it would be a worthwhile investment!

Thanks Dimitris. The scene is actually pretty heavy with reflections, I only did a 1/2 size render just to test it. I'll try it full size and see how it goes!

Great tut! You've got a new subscriber. What are people's thoughts on using this for an animated sequence though? Would you have to manually process each frame in photoshop or is there a good way to automate for several hundred unique frames?
@marvelousdecay
@marvelousdecay 7 жыл бұрын
For animations I wouldn't;t use multiple stacks. I would just use do one noisy render and use a plugin like neat video. Neat video can work wonders even with noisy images. Tested out with a really noisy animation and the results were stunning. You could also render at a slightly higher resolution as a noisy render in order to maintain some sharpness.

I wonder if this technique could be improved if you do let's say one render with slightly higher samples and the rest low. Maybe that first render will reduce the amount of needed low-sample renders significantly? Just a thought.

Hello, all my rendered frames are exactly the same and have the same noise, so the stacking doesn't work, how can I fix it ? Thanks
@marvelousdecay
@marvelousdecay 5 жыл бұрын
If you're using Pro Render make sure you don't have the "static noise" option enabled. It's in the General tab. Standard and Physical produce random noise on every frame so you should;dn't have a problem there.

@@marvelousdecay But I use Octan render 3
@marvelousdecay
@marvelousdecay 5 жыл бұрын
Octane is already using a denoiser which is basically doing the same thing as the process I'm describing here. But if you still wanna use this process (it won't hurt) then make sure you're rendering an animation sequence. You need to introduce different noise in each frame that's why we need the animation sequence. If you are using an animation sequence when you play it back does the noise stay the same in each frame? If you replied yes to that as well then try to see if there's an option in octane to introduce random noise instead of static noise.

These are all stills. If I have a movie, I would need to render it 5+ times to get rid of all noise? That would be considerably more time than any still image.
@marvelousdecay

As I mentioned in the video this method is suggested for stills. For videos I would suggest just using noise reduction software. Neat video is the king in that area.
