Have you been able to capture any snowy landscapes this year?
@ddki90943 жыл бұрын
Yes. I go to a local park about a mile away from where I live. Nothing terribly special but there are some very nice trees in there that hang over a path to create the 'tunnel of trees' and when the snow sticks to them it can look good. The problem this winter where I live is that we haven't had a lot of the really wet snow that sticks to the trees but rather the really dry light fluffy snow because it's been cooler this year; so the wind blows the snow off the trees as soon as it falls on them.

As one introvert to another I want to thank you for your ability to be open and honest. I suspect that landscape photography attracts more introverts than extroverts. Fellow introvert here. That van is dope. Re: cold feet - one pair of medium-thickness socks should work, provided your boots are sized large enough to allow some air movement. I used to layer up socks and I found it was cutting off my circulation. Here's my go-to setup: Keen work boots 1/2 size larger than my feet. Homemade insoles of reflectix radiant barrier. Ariat cushioned insoles (I wore out the ones that came with my boots). Smartwool medium-thickness wool socks (not too tight, just right). And that's it. Stay hydrated, keep your bladder empty, eat some fat and carbs. Lots of thin loose layers for clothing - nothing restrictive. I'm a southerner living in Colorado - it took a bit of trial and error to be warm in the snow. Good luck! And thanks for the video.

Hey Mark, thank you for your honesty and for allowing yourself to be vulnerable. There are so many of us that share the same introvert "trait" and respect the difficulty of being on camera. That being said, I for one prefer the more educational style videos that you produce and continue to look forward to them each and every week. When I am in the field I am more likely to recall what you said about composing a scene or remembering to shoot to the right on the histogram for snowy scenes than I am about what location you were in. There is a place for that but that's not what I think of when watching your videos. You are a natural educator regardless of the location you choose to do it in. Now go change the batteries in your clock! 🙂

Hi Mark, I am an introvert too. A positive of it is I like to head out driving into the wilderness and get lost. I set my GPS up for "Home" before I venture in and after that just drive in totally random locations. When I am ready to leave, I just hit "home" and the GPS will guide me back out to civilization. The second positive is you don't need somebody to be with you for the company, less disappointment with cancellations because you don't need them, just wanted them.

I understand your feelings about being an introvert, especially as a creator. The second we pick up a camera to film ourselves, we exit the safe place from within. That is draining. We have to weigh the pros and cons of sharing what and when and how much. I have SO much admiration for people who can make weekly photography vlogs. You are not as weird as you might think…there are many of us who need quiet internal space to rest.

I’ve got an uncle who always told me “No one impressed him, because we’re all the same”. I was so shy I’d drive around the MacDonalds parking lot until I saw no one at the counter and then ran in and got my 3 cheeseburgers and run out. Then one day many years later, what my uncle said hit home and I started to remember all the great things I had missed due to this handicap, the images, the people I could have met and made friendships with. So yes I still re-charge in my quiet time in nature but I’m also trying to broaden my horizons by getting out and doing street photography. Sometimes I just walk around and not even ask someone if I can take their image, something I would never had done 10 years ago. Everything and every emotion has its place in our lives. But not to rule over us!!!!! We must rule them!!!! Thanks again for a great thought provoking video!!!!!

Another "weirdo" here, Mark. I'm a massive introvert, I've been that way for 67 years, and I don't have the need or the expectation of changing at this point in my life. Couldn't if I wanted to. I occasionally go out shooting with friends, but my preference is to go out on my own. I deal with people every day at work, and it just drains me. When it's just me and my camera, that's my "me" time, and it brings me back to life. It doesn't have to be wilderness, either. I'm just as happy on my own in the heart of the city. Any place I'm not expeced to actually interact with people works for me. Love your videos! I've learned more from you than from any other KZbin photographer.

Good video and there is nothing wrong of being introverted. I’m sort of semi introverte. It’s a good thing that you bring up the topic because many think there is something wrong with them just for that reason. I have a tip for you about cold feets. Buy merino wool socks (pretty thick) and the winterboots should be a size to big. If the boots are to tight there will be too little air inside to keep the warmth. In the extra space if it’s really cold, you can fit some home knitted rag socks (those are the best) in there as well. Switched from cotton to wool socks a couple of years ago and since then I stopped freezing.

It gave me a Zen like calmness away from the horrors that I had to witness.

The b-roll, the angles etc… I think it’s a good idea for any KZbin artist to have multiple non KZbin options/income streams so that on can comfortably take that inevitable much need rest from time to time. Mark, as you've probably noticed by now you (ironically) have a lot of company in being introverted! I'm guessing being out shooting landscapes appeals to us exactly for all the reasons you described. Even before picking up a camera, I would happily go out for a day of skiing alone. And your reasons for not filming on location much make perfect sense to me...even just taking quick "behind the scenes" shots on my phone (for Instagram stories or whatever) breaks my feeling of flow....well, when I even remember to stop and take them 😂 I can only imagine how much more disruptive filming it all would be. Keep on keeping on 👍

Great video Mark and GO DAWGS! So happy Kirby was able to bring a championship after 41 years! Really enjoyed your perspective and what really makes you happy in photography. It’s funny, I always thought of myself as an extrovert, but as I get older and I get out shooting landscapes, I find the introvert taking over. It is my natural blood pressure medicine. So, you hit all the nails on the head for me. Thank you for sharing! Winter has always been my weak spot in my catalog of shots. Love it, and the silence it brings. But just difficult to get out during the snow falls due to my job. Really great shots you got there. Keep up the great work 😎👍

Thanks for another great video, every time I watch it makes me want to go shoot something and I usually do! Heading out today to a large tree forest to see what I find!

Hi Mark. A very thoughtful video. I spent some time doing weddings saying yes to doing one was easy, the planning was fun even, but about a week before the event something hit & I used to start to almost panic, trying to think up excuses as to why I couldn't do it, hours before I would be on the verge of calling someone to say I was ill or my car had broke down or I had my gear stolen. But I turned up & something just takes over after the first couple of shots I was on auto & I loved it. I haven't done a wedding for ages I just have to think of the days just before & I find it much easier to say no. Landscape photography is good food for the soul, have fun, Enjoy.

Mark, your are yourself. Do not worry about what others think. I am like you but my drive is stress and I did wedding photography for 5 years... In the snow I use neoprene socks over wool socks. Thank and I enjoy your videos.

Great video, Mark ! I agree with you 100% about the “ introversion factor .” Nothing is quite as nice as being alone in the woods with my camera and not being required to make clever conversation!

Yet another excellent video, your thoughts and insights are appreciated. Keep it up. Nearly 200,000 people can't be wrong.

I’m an extrovert but an introvert I suppose when it comes to photography. Focus is necessary and going out for yourself and getting in the zone means not stopping and talking to a camera. It is shooting for your “job” versus your personal time -totally makes sense. COLD FEET tip. Buy battery heated socks. I’m a downhill skier and my friend swears by them. She said they last a good 5 hours!

You be you man. Completely understandable. As a total hack at photography how you see those shots that I would just walk past a million times. Gosh,... inspiring yet frustrating to watch

Mark, Thanks for another insightful video. I'm glad you're embracing your introversion, it looks fine on you! Having spent thousands of hours alone in the woods, I totally get what it does for you. Now, if only I could acquire 10% of your photography skills...

Totally agree with you on the introvert thing. I’ve always been that way also and I’m good with it. Great video. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
