I've avoided using proxies on Premiere just because I had a nightmare with it on Final Cut several years ago. After watching your video, my anxiety over it has dissapated, and I'm creating proxies for all my projects going forward in premiere

Hi man, super video! But i have little question. When i make proxy, media encoder render me mov clip, and it's taken as a proxy. Witch clip i should be using, when i make new project in premiere pro? Original clip or proxy mov clip, to get my sequence smooth again.

Can you edit a proxy with other clips that are not 4K on the timeline. I would like to do this with multicam editing - is that doable? Thanks.
@RealVideoFx
@RealVideoFx 9 ай бұрын
Yes, it's doable. In a multi-camera editing scenario, it's common to have footage from different cameras and different resolutions. Here's how you can approach it: Create Proxies for 4K Footage: Before setting up your multicam sequence, create proxies for your 4K footage. This will ensure smoother playback during editing. Set Up a Multicam Sequence: Once you have proxies ready, you can create a new multicam sequence. Add all your clips (both 4K proxies and other resolution clips) to this sequence. Synchronize Clips: Use the Synchronize feature to align all clips based on audio, timecode, or other methods. This will ensure all camera angles are synced up correctly. Edit with the Multicam Monitor: As you edit, you can switch between camera angles in real-time using the multicam monitor. Since you're using proxies for the 4K footage, this should be a smooth process, even if your system isn't top-of-the-line. Finish and Export: Once editing is complete, if you've been working with proxies, ensure that the "Toggle Proxies" button is turned off. This ensures that Premiere Pro uses the original high-resolution footage for the final export.

Thank you! Do you know if it would work off of an external 5400rpm HDD? I have the mac mini M2 8GB RAM 256GB SSD and was hoping I could add a usb 3.1 external dual dock case with 2X 5400rpm 8TB hardrive to store all my originals and proxies + have a backup. Would editing off of that work? The original files are: 4K 60fps prores HQ 422 log videos that I capture from my iphone 15 pro max using the blackmagic camera app.
@RealVideoFx
@RealVideoFx 2 ай бұрын
yes, editing off a 5400rpm HDD using proxies should work, especially with a USB 3.1 connection. However, be aware of the potential for slower performance when dealing with large files and consider investing in faster storage solutions if your budget allows in the future.

1. Check Media Encoder Queue Error Details: After a job fails in Adobe Media Encoder, it usually provides an error message or code. Check the error details to get clues about what might be going wrong. 2. Verify Source Files File Integrity: Ensure that the source files aren't corrupted. Try playing them in a media player to see if they can be played back without issues. File Location: If your files are located on an external drive or network storage, try moving them to your local drive. Network or connection issues can sometimes cause problems. 3. Update Software Software Updates: Ensure that both Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder are up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise if one application has received an update and the other has not. 4. Check Presets Preset Settings: Double-check the settings in your proxy preset. Make sure that the resolution, bitrate, and other settings are compatible with your source footage. Try using one of the default presets provided by Adobe to see if that resolves the issue. 5. Codec Compatibility Codec Issues: Some codecs might be problematic or unsupported in your current setup. Try changing the codec used for the proxy files. For instance, switching from H.264 to ProRes or vice versa might help. 6. Clear Media Cache Clear Cache: Clearing Adobe Premiere Pro’s and Media Encoder's cache can resolve many weird behaviors. Go to Preferences > Media Cache in both applications and clear your cache files. 7. Reinstall Media Encoder Reinstallation: If nothing else works, there might be an issue with the installation of Adobe Media Encoder. Reinstalling it can ensure any corrupted files are replaced. 8. Hardware Limitations System Resources: Check if your system meets the hardware requirements for processing video, especially if working with high-resolution or complex codecs. Lack of sufficient RAM or a weak CPU/GPU can cause failures. 9. Permissions and Security Software Permissions: Ensure that Adobe Media Encoder has the necessary permissions to access your folders and drives. Security software can sometimes block applications from working correctly. Security Software: Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall to see if that might be causing the issue.

So one question please...if I use proxy files in premiere Pro will it work with after effect using dynamic link?
@RealVideoFx
@RealVideoFx 6 күн бұрын
1. Creating Proxies in Premiere Pro: • When you create proxies in Premiere Pro, ensure they are properly attached to the original high-resolution files. This helps in maintaining the link between the proxies and the original media. 2. Using Proxies with Dynamic Link: • When you send a sequence or clip from Premiere Pro to After Effects via Dynamic Link, After Effects will reference the original high-resolution files, not the proxies. This is because Dynamic Link aims to preserve the highest possible quality. 3. Switching Between Proxies and Originals: • If you want to maintain the proxy workflow, you can edit in Premiere Pro using the proxies for smoother performance and then switch back to the original high-resolution files for the final render in After Effects. • To switch between proxies and original files in Premiere Pro, you can use the “Toggle Proxies” button. This doesn’t affect the Dynamic Link; After Effects will still use the high-resolution files. 4. Best Practices: • Ensure your system is capable of handling the high-resolution files in After Effects, as Dynamic Link will bypass the proxies. • You may consider pre-rendering certain complex effects or compositions in After Effects to reduce the load on your system. Here’s a step-by-step summary: 1. Create and attach proxies in Premiere Pro. 2. Edit your project in Premiere Pro using proxies for better performance. 3. Send your sequence or clip to After Effects using Dynamic Link. 4. Switch to original high-resolution files for final renders in After Effects. 5. Toggle proxies back on in Premiere Pro if needed for further edits. By following these steps, you can maintain a smooth workflow between Premiere Pro and After Effects while leveraging the benefits of proxy editing.

The new Blackmagic app has a setting where it will convert your video files to just proxy files, or both proxy and original. If I select proxy only, will I still get the full resolution of my video clips when exporting my final project? I'm assuming too that without the original files in the project I won't get to do a final preview of the complete project in full resolution before exporting right?
@RealVideoFx
@RealVideoFx 6 ай бұрын
When you choose to work with proxy files only, it’s important to understand that proxies are typically lower-resolution versions of your original footage. They are used to ensure smoother editing performance, especially with high-resolution 4K files. However, if you select the option to create proxy files only (and not retain the original high-resolution files), you won’t have the original footage available for the final export. This means that your final export will be limited to the resolution of the proxy files, not the original 4K resolution. Additionally, without the original high-resolution files, you won’t be able to do a final preview of your project in its full quality. It’s generally recommended to keep both the proxy and the original files for the final output to be in the highest possible quality.

Open Adobe Premiere Pro 2020. 2. Import your footage: Go to File > Import or drag and drop your media files into the Project panel. Step 2: Create a New Project or Open an Existing One 1. Create a new project: Go to File > New > Project. 2. Set project settings: Make sure your project settings match your footage resolution and frame rate. Step 3: Ingest Settings 1. In the Project panel, click on the Ingest button (a small checkmark box) next to the Import button. 2. Click on the wrench icon next to the Ingest button to open the Project Settings - Ingest Settings dialog. Step 4: Ingest Settings Dialog 1. Check the Ingest box. 2. Under Ingest Settings, select Create Proxies. 3. Choose your Preset: You can use the default proxy presets or create a custom one. The default presets are usually 1024x540 or 1280x720 in lower bitrates, suitable for editing. 4. Destination: Choose where the proxy files will be saved. You can save them in the same location as the original media or in a specified folder. Step 5: Custom Proxy Presets (Optional) 1. If you need a custom preset, go to Adobe Media Encoder and create a new preset that matches your desired proxy settings. 2. Save the preset and select it in the Premiere Pro Ingest Settings dialog. Step 6: Create Proxies 1. Click OK in the Ingest Settings dialog. 2. Premiere Pro will now generate proxy files for your media. You can monitor the progress in Adobe Media Encoder. Step 7: Attach Proxies (If Needed) 1. If you imported footage without proxies, you can still create and attach them. 2. Select your media files in the Project panel, right-click, and choose Proxy > Create Proxies. 3. Follow the same steps as above to create and attach proxies. Step 8: Toggle Proxies On/Off 1. In the Program Monitor, there is a Toggle Proxies button (two rectangles icon). If you don’t see it, click the + button at the bottom right of the Program Monitor to open the Button Editor and drag the Toggle Proxies button to the toolbar. 2. Click the Toggle Proxies button to switch between the original high-resolution files and the proxies while editing. Step 9: Edit with Proxies 1. With proxies enabled, you can enjoy a smoother editing experience. 2. Premiere Pro will automatically switch back to the original high-resolution files when you export your final project. Additional Tips • Naming Conventions: Use consistent naming conventions to keep track of your original and proxy files. • Storage: Ensure you have enough storage space for both your original media and proxy files.
