Something I started doing as of late is going straight to Media Encoder, adding the footage there, and creating the proxies INSIDE of Encoder. This way you skip the step of sending them to encoder, and simply need to attach proxies once they render. This also allows you to continue editing in Premiere.

I'm new to proxies but how would you attach them after rendering?

I thoroughly enjoyed this video and learned a lot. You included information for beginners (such as, shift + select multiple videos, or how to add the proxy switcher icon), but still present material that even advanced users may not have known. This is a hard balance to strike, and I think you did it very well. Thank you for this content, I look forward to more!

Hey Matt! Thanks for always being able to find answers for editing questions I have 😂 I was wondering why Media Encoder wouldn't let me interpret footage. Now it makes perfect sense. However, I was wondering what to do if I wanted to create proxies for slow-motion footage that I want to speed ramp. In the past, I wasn't able to both use the speed/duration menu and keyframing the speed manually. Unless, I'm missing something? Thanks!

Coming back to this as I have a couple days of footage that I need to re-proxy! Unfortunately Premiere has changed the Create Proxies Dialogue box so I'm piecing together what I need! This was such a huge help and I honestly felt capable of working out what I need in this project thanks to this and the practice I got months ago from this video! Currently doing custom with the resolution set to match my other proxies and my preset to ProRes Quicktime Proxy to hopefully match what you did here Matt! Not sure if this will help anyone going forward and I'm definitely up for some feedback if I could be doing this better! I'm still new to proxies but will be implementing them into my Team workflows very soon!

I was doing some more tests and if you nest a clip and then add warp stabilizer you can enable proxies on stabilized clips. The clips seem to be stabilized perfectly and exactly the same on both the proxy and native file (no difference if there's a watermark). Try it out and see if you get the same result. I'm going to put it to the ultimate test with my next wedding video I'm starting to work on. So far, so FAST.
@ShawnCHeron2 жыл бұрын
I've now tested proxies on 350 stabilized clips shot in 120fps and 60fps and it works perfectly. First adjust the clip speed based on Matt's cheat sheet, nest the clip that you want stabilized, add warp stabilizer to the clips you want, then enable/disable proxies as you would. I've stabilized literally thousands of clips over the years and this method stabilizes everything as intended by Adobe meanwhile applying it to both the native and proxy files seamlessly. This is a game changer for anyone who uses warp stabilizer on a lot of clips in their projects (and who don't want to wait to apply warp stabilizer until the end - there are benefits to not waiting). I can scrub through 350 stabilized clips in one timeline with zero lag and it's a thing of beauty. 10 years of filming/editing weddings and my workflow has never played back smoother.

Great solution for the interpret footage flaw in Media Encoder. Seems like a faster workflow than the previous one as well by the way. Nice you mentioned the warp issue cause this can be a real pain, I know that from experience when not yet being aware of it. Proxies are still very handy when working with 10 bit H265 footage, even on my maxed out mbpro from 2019, so great video Matt!

There is an Adobe support thread covering the Media Encoder issue of suddenly not being able to interpret footage. They've said it was a total accident in the update and they're not sure how it happened. Apparently they're working on fixing it, but they've been aware of the problem for two months now. It's pretty embarrassing that a self-styled professional product is managed like this, but there we are. In the meantime, thanks for the workaround tip Matt!

Matt, this worked great and definitely speeded up work I did with 4K files. A couple questions: if I wanted to proactively create proxies on a folder of clips that are awaiting placement into a project or timeline, just going straight to Media Encoder instead, what settings should I use on that? I've started trying to do this, but when I place a file into the ME queue, the Format tab show "Quicktime", & under Preset tab, there's an "Apple ProRes 422 Proxy" choice, but not the low resolution proxy you suggest above. And there's no box to check for putting them into a "proxy" subfolder next to originals.

I tried the older method you did a few years ago, and it "worked" fine, but my proxy footage when editing had a bunch of "pink screens", maybe 2 times a second... with this method all I get is "green screen", just green color instead of any footage. Is there a preset that would work for me? I'm running Premiere pro 22.6.4. but on an ancient macbook pro from 2012. Thank you in advance.

Great video Matt however, what should you do when dropping a 100 fps clip (slowed down like you showed) into a 25 fps timeline? I keep getting a "Clip mismatch warning". I don't really see what you do in this video to work around that? Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter I don't think but since you asked 11 months ago I guess you know this answer. I need to know if you have to slow down your 59.99 fps clips or if that's a personal choice because I've not done that and I've done some at 40% and some at 60%
