@@Some_Guy_Called_Raven It's pretty standard, tried to create a download link for mine but for some reason it wouldn't stay linked. @@skilllanoodle You're not the only one having linking issues. With the dot grid for the lights.. I removed those same patterns you mentioned. I also dislike them.. they're too "bulky" for a ship or hull. I also removed the 3 outline to leave just solids. Is this similar to what you were doing?

Thanks for the tutorial! I'm figuring out if I can make a spaceship to feature in a short film I may be developing. I've very little blender experience so it is quite the challenge. Quick question: It seems the new Displacement X doesn't have the dot grid? Am I missing it, or is there an alternative for that? Thanks!

Can't we use these textures in Eevee render?
@skilllanoodle4 ай бұрын
you can, there's just no adaptive subdivison you have to apply the texture on a displacement modifier and subdivide until the object has enough detail. Hope this helps!

What are the hot-keys you used to undo changes you did at the start when you randomized the area when creating the city? Google etc gives me "Shift+Z" for that but that does something entirely different. Also, what are the keys used to make these... "cut-outs" when making the base of the star destroyer?
@skilllanoodle5 ай бұрын
Weird it said Shift+Z for undo. It's control or command +Z hold the key for control or command and then press Z whilst holding the other key down. Should work for you, but remember that you only have so many undos before you've gone back too far where it isn't saved. Hope this helps!

@@skilllanoodle my bad, it's Ctrl+Z not Shift+Z, memory fooled me there. Anyhow, upon looking through the tutorial I realized that I rly should do the basics tutorials first because quite a lot of that "normal" stuff looks super complex for a beginner.

@skilllanoodle8 ай бұрын
@@youtubeuser1159 It might be acting weird with your operating system, you can find generated texture packs that already have the completed Jsplacement textures or similar displacement maps. I know this isn't the best solution, but they cut any support for the software and I've also been waiting for some kind of alternative.

@skilllanoodle8 ай бұрын
The reason you're not seeing the texture on the plane is because you're still in solid view. If you hold down the Z key and slide your mouse to material preview, you will then be able to see the textures in your scene. Hope this helps!

If you were to import this into a game, would it save all that detail? I'm guessing this is just for rendered scenes, but if there was a way to easily graft this detail onto game assets, it'd be a life saver.
@skilllanoodle Жыл бұрын
So if you were to add enough subdivisions, rather than using adaptive subdivisions which only subdivides to how close it is to the camera, then yes. Do note, however, this needs to be heavily subdivided to actually retain good detail which is why I use adaptive subdivision.

Bro i'm having a problem, when i try to export the textures to use it on Unity the textures with Displacement are not being exported, what i can do about it?
@skilllanoodle10 ай бұрын
This is actually a great question. So the reason you can't bring it over and get the same results is because the displacement node in your shader editor (in Blender) is acting like a modifier. This means your mesh is still your mesh but when it comes time to render it adds the subdivison and displacement. I'm not too familiar with Unity but check if there is a way to use your height map to actually affect the mesh inside Unity.
@PedroLiveGameplay10 ай бұрын
@@skilllanoodle Yes i tried to use the Height map inside the Unity but the details and the depth effect from the HeightMap are just possible to do inside the Blender and not inside the Unity, i'm searching how to fix it but no success yet :(
@skilllanoodle10 ай бұрын
@@PedroLiveGameplay You could instead of using the displacement node switch over to a displacement modifier instead (put it below the subdivison in the stack order) and then apply it to bake in the mesh details. Note that you can't use adaptive subdivision however and will have to just subdivide many times to get enough detail. Either way this might be too dense detail wise to use in a game engine and is more useful for final rendered viz. Hope this helps!
@PedroLiveGameplay10 ай бұрын

I cannot seem to find Feature Set so I can click Experimental. Nor can I find Adaptive Subdivision under Subdivision Surface. I have looked for it in 2.93 LTS, 3.6, 3.6.5, and version 4. What am I missing?
@skilllanoodle Жыл бұрын
The Feature Set dropdown should be under Render Properties on the right side. As for adaptive subdivision, it won't show up unless Experimental is turned on. You may not be seeing the Feature Set option due to being in eevee instead of Cycles. Unfortunately Adaptive Subdivison only works in Cycles so if you want results in Eevee you're just going to have to subdivide a bunch. Hope this helps!
@vizdotlife Жыл бұрын
Does this work for Eevee too?
@skilllanoodle Жыл бұрын
unfortunately no, but what you can do for eevee is just do a standard simple subdivision and subdivide the mesh until the details come through. Hope this helps!

I dont know if anyone can help me, when I render my scene with 1080p resolution it works fine (14secs per frame) but when I render at 4k it says system out of memory. Is there a work around?
@skilllanoodle Жыл бұрын
So unfortunately when depending on your GPU you cannot render because your cache is full (this is essentially where all relevant data is stored to complete the render) when you're out of GPU memory you have to downscale. If you want a 4K render I would suggest raising the number on your adaptive subdivision. Fore example, instead of doing 0.5px raise it to 1.0px. If it still gives problems or the mesh isn't subdivided enough, try taking the 1080 footage and raising it to 4K after in your editing software (Photoshop/Gimp/After Effects or whatever you use). This adds details between the pixels of the render and makes the result more crisp. Hope this helps!

There's a few problems that seem to arise from the same mistakes. Are you in cycles? Under the material settings, did you change bump to displacement and bump?
