This is great! Thank you as always, Alex! One thing I'd add is that if you set your in and out, Resolve will only create subtitles in that section, so for your section at 10:00, you could just lock the track, set your in and out to your gap, and run it again, and it would only do the section you had selected. I would just make sure you set your in and out a little extra wide since it can cut off the first or last one a bit. Definitely agree with your suggestions. I do so much work with subs for vertical content, and while this is a great feature, it's nearly useless currently for my workflow and needs. Really hope they improve the F out of this, but I'm so happy they've added it!

Just switched to Davinci Resolve Studio, now watching all of your channel. @MrAlexTech Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.🙏 One thing I couldn't find on your channel which might be an interesting video for all people switching now to Davinci Resolve: "How to import projects from FinalCut/Premiere/Vegas into Davinci Resolve PROPERLY" (without losing links) I know I can export/import XML timeline, but Davinci Resolve then unlinks video and audio and splits stereo to dual mono tracks. Which makes it hard to finish an existing project switching to DR.

For sure having the option to right click on a specific audio track to do subtitles and select a color or it would pull what ever color the respective track is would be awesome. That would help with multi track videos and make things on click if it could be set in the project settings. Also, I'm sure this is something they are more than likely working on but having subtitles auto format to a Text+ or "convert on completion" would make things even better! Glad to see BlackMagic adding these features!

Awesome feature. One can fix the thing with multiple people just by recording on two channels, I guess. Muting one channel, running auto subs, locking it and then doing the same with the other one. I think that's the way to go with Podcasts or Rode mics. Just an idea until further updates. Love this feature, tho. and German is already working.

FYI, just checked and Italian and a bunch of other languages (including AUTO) are in there (18.5 b5) already :) Also, a 3:14 minutes video took about 4 minutes to generate subtitles on a Macbook Pro 13" M1 2020 model at Analysis speed roaming around 4.0-5.0x There's also styling added, so now you can have Netflix style and Teletext style subs

_Finally_ found someone demonstrating that yes, we can export the subtitles to a file, as opposed to baking them into the video. Very important for us non-native English speakers, who want to give our viewers the option of seeing non-auto generated subtitles. IE. _not_ the auto generated continuously 'flowing' velotype stuff, often used for hard-of-hearing people in some parts of the world. (Special notice to native English speakers: This use case is _extremely_ common in non-English speaking countries. Which happens to be most of the world.) Thanks Alex. 👍 Just commenting for maximum algorithmic KZbin visibility goodness. 😅 Edit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHjSkpucbtKcqbc " _the DaVinci Resolve Norrul Engine_ " 🤔(Neural.) So yes, it did make at least one mistake. 😁

Big fan of DR and BMD in general.. they are gamechangers in our industry. And this is another great update..but auto subtitles causes DR to quit about 10 seconds after it starts generating them. Clean exit to Windows. Auto transcribe works. Anyone else has this problem? We use an uptodate system, but a humble video card (Nvida K2200, 4Mb). Thnx, keep up the good work Alex!

I would like to point out that DaVinci adds a hyphen at the beginning of the phrase when the speaker changes, so it actually does detect a change in the person who is speaking, but doesnt label the people. At least it worked like that for me.

Just a tip on those who use dual screens, I was getting frustrated with losing the transcription window box and not being to get it back up again. It will hide behind the secondary screen (non primary) when called up again (Right clicking the clip in the bin>Transcribe Audio). Switch to either Cut or Deliver pages and drag it over to the primary screen.

What I wouldn't give to be able to have it do individual words as well so you can do those trendy KZbin subtitles that you see on gaming videos and whatnot. That and subtitle track to Text+ is a must. Hope Blackmagic's got in in their plans somewhere. This is already pretty game changing as is.

I have been looking at tools that will help edit talking head videos. Descript is a tool that allows you to edit the written transcript and compile the video with selected elements. Remove any unwanted content and eliminate duplicate shots to create a polished timeline. I think resolve is on a path towards that kind of editing from a written transcript to create a clean first draft of a timeline. Have you explored this type of editing?

I was always exporting my videos and uploading them to some random site that auto generates my captions and then I'd spend a while in their bad editor to fix them. This'll be a great help. You've spoken to one of the lead developers at Black Magic, dang, hey if you can, please request to have them make it so you can scroll through the audio tracks and video tracks without having them separated, show them Magix movie edit pro interface, that is the best for having the most room to work with on the screen.

I wish they made export subtitles on by default if there are subtitles. Especially before auto‐generated ones, if you go through the trouble of creating them, you probably want to export them too! Annoys me so much when I spend hours translating and captioning a long interview, and then the software assumes I don't want to do anything with all that work and I have to go back and export it all over again. Anyway, it's a great tool.

Off topic question, is there a way to export a video with an alpha channel to be used as a stream alert? I've tried 1. Quicktime-> GoPro Cineform->Export Alpha checked (both with single clip or Individual clips checked), and 2. Quicktime-> DNxHR-> DNxHR 444 12-bit with export alpha checked. The first method, the video is unusable. The second method works to preview (as in playing in VLC player), but can't be uploaded to sites. I've been struggling with this for years and its honestly depressing at this point because I've been trying with workarounds (like OBSs' built in filters) but they're subpar and always leave green in.

You mentioned in a previous video of things youd like to see something with the voice isolation. You mentioned youd like it to work the opposite way and be able to remove voices/conversations/song lyrics instead of isolating them. Just curious if you talked to anyone from BM about that while you were at NAB?

Great video as always, can't wait for this version to go live! I have a VERY random question. I don't know what version of resolve this started happening, but it used to be when you drag the edge of a clip to shorten or extend it you would get a preview of what you were doing so you knew where to stop... that no longer seems to be the case for me, im getting no preview and its making trying to drag trim a clip a PITA to now without the preview to go by. I don't know if its resolve doing this or some random option I've accidently disabled.

Great video Alex. Quick question: if I record 2 people, each with their own mic and on their own track, am I able to generate 2 separate subtitle tracks, color them differently and offset them, and then collapse them into one track by making them a compound clip? And if so, is there any way to get KZbin to keep the formatting without hard coding them onto the screen? I'm hoping to solve the multiple speaker problem.

Could you do a video on restoration tools in DaVinci Resolve to clean up the video and audio on this material? @MrAlexTech I discovered something interesting - auto subtitles with songs doesn't quite work well, but if you turn on the VOICE ISOLATION function on the song before analyzing the song, the subtitles will be created practically without any problem - and then just turn off VOICE ISOLATION - greetings ;)

they are great only thing is a feel like they have a bit of a delay with the timings of the subtitles and i wish you could convert them into text+ automatically

Yeah, they are too late, but there's a relatively easy fix. Export to .srt file, import to the free software Subtitle Edit, click on "Synchronization" in the menu, and select "Adjust all times (show earlier/later)". Click in the adjustment (text field) 0:01 field under hour:min:sec:ms once, click your arrow up ket a few times, so the text says e.g. 00:00:00,300, and click the "Show earlier" - button. Done! You can now save the file, and import into DR. File - > import - > subtitle.
