The perfect big buck rut hunting stand location has to have the right habitat ingredients of food, then doe bedding and then buck bedding. However, the perfect buck hunting stand location also has to have the hunting ingredients of rut attraction, great hunter access and outstanding morning hunting opportunity. Here is an example of an outstanding potential mature buck rut hunting hotspot, and the hunting and habitat ingredients that came together to create the opportunity...

These videos have helped me understand how to keep deer from knowing that I'm hunting them even though I don't own the property or manipulate the cover. Access is huge....I see deer consistently now. Also, public land hunting can be tough to access without bumping deer but with a little thought and being quiet and hunting the area's that are high quality rut locations are starting to come clear in my mind now. Thanks for your videos!

Jeff. Is the road you speak of, a 4-wheeler (farm road), or an actual road with car traffic. As far as access. Also, you teach very well, and these diagrams and overhead views help tremendously!! Can’t speak for everyone, but during the discussion, sometimes because we can’t actually visualize the property, we can get lost. I found myself re-playing the videos over and over to comprehend. With the diagrams, that has been completed eliminated! Awesome job. I always look forward to a new video. Thanks again for all the knowledge. One last question. If you have a 4 acre food plot (200 yards from bordering property), would you worry about creating less food by doing this setup? In other words planting 1.5 acres of food, and the rest in switchgrass, and browse. I’m afraid of loosing some of the deer? I’m sure you’re going to say, I’d actually gain deer because of the cover?

Jeff, for those 40% stands in the pre rut and rut, if you get the perfect wind, hunt a stand, see deer, but not the target buck, but then have perfect wind and good weather the next day, will you take a swing at hunting that stand two days in a row under those circumstances?

Really good question 👍 I might...but I typically have 6-8 morning stands on even a small parcel...so it would have to be a pretty big buck only around that stand, or I would definitely just flip to another fresh stand with a similar setup. Tuesday's video goes over the landowners parcels, and I illustrate towards the end the 7-8 locations he will have, just like this one. I love hunting fresh stands ☺️

Whitetail Habitat Solutions totally understand! I killed my public land PA buck my first time sitting in that area on the evening of October 26th, pre rut working a scrape, so I know exactly what you mean! My thought in asking, was if you struck out on a 40% sit one day, the odds could be in your favor to hit on that same stand the next day if conditions are the same.

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob...great question! A morning stand is away from food and one that you typically couldn't get into during the afternoon because you would spook deer out of bedding areas. An evening stand is one that is close to the bottom of the funnel of afternoon food source movements. I hunt mostly deer traveling to food in the evening, but you have to be careful that you don't hunt so close to the food source that you ruin the movement. So generally...closer to bedding in the morning and we'll away from major food sources...closer to those food sources in the evening, without spooking those food sources.

@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 4 жыл бұрын
Not really at all. The advantage to already being in the stand is huge, because you aren't getting into a spot where deer are necessarily bedding right in front of you. If deer are near you can keep sitting and wait for them to move on. After you sit there all morning, a good hunter will know what is around him and where. At some point around mid day deer move very little...especially rutting bucks, before heading to food at night. With the luxury of already knowing if the coast is clear because you have been sitting there for so long...you can easily get out of the morning stand. However, when you go to the same stand in the evening, you have zero clue if deer are around or not. It isn't worth the risk. So huge advantage knowing I the morning that you are entering while deer are we'll away from the position compared to the afternoon when those deer could be alright at the stand location. With the luxury of knowing where deer are...you can then easily get out late morning to early afternoon when the movement really slows down. That's why quiet, high quality treestands are key...you can't afford to make 1 noise with deer bedded likely within 100 yards. Most hunters access morning stands in the afternoon and when you blow deer away 1 time it ruins the location for a week or more. Then, many hunters use noisy gear, climbing stands, cheap stands, wood stands that creak...and it is just as bad as walking into deer. By using quiet stands, accessing from the backside of cover and having the luxury of knowing where deer are at when you want to exit...the system becomes Incredibly easy to manage. That's how I have shot roughly 75% of my bucks going back to the late 80s... That's why a lot of today's land managers fail when they design a parcel, and why I teach this stuff to folks. Most don't have the hunting know-how, success, experience, track record, so they can't really design hunting parcels. This is a good example of that. This landowner can likely hit this stand 2-3 times next year and each time he has the potential of his target buck in that is using the location, at a rate of 40-50%. He can also hit that target buck by flipping around and out into an evening stand for another high value sit in the same day. It becomes easy pickings but if that high level hunting experience is not infused into the plan, then the design fails. Kind of like if someone hasn't proven they can do it themselves on all DIY public and private land hunts, for a decades...then how can they teach someone else? They can't. That's why this stuff works so well...it has been proven time and time again. I hope that helps!
