I'm using the matte with gouache and I really like the results. It has the advantage of boosting my confidence because I'm not worried about wasting expensive paper. If I mess up I can just wash it off and start over. Transferring drawings is also easier. Usually I don't even have to transfer. I just tape the image to the back and start painting. Also I use the clear finish as palettes. I can mix away with different shades of each color on a sheet and when they dry I can stack them and store them to reuse over and over. Great product. When the painting is finished I can place a sheet of white paper behind it and it's ready to frame.

That's correct, we discontinued that product a few years ago.

I’m confused as to why you would want to paint on clear plastic sheets? Is there a purpose that I’m not understanding?

There are many benefits to painting on clear film! My personal favorite is that you can add dimension and shading by painting on both sides of the film. @@85fatboi92 You can't print on our Dura-Lar Film but we do have a film that you can print on called Computer Grafix Film www.grafixarts.com/products/computer-grafix-film/. Let us know if you have any additional quuestions.

Okay.. you are probably very experienced in watercolor. 3 reasons: One, you can trace an image so an amateur can get a pretty decent likeness of the subject. Two, unlike watercolor paper, you can erase. Three, you can test your drawing skill by looking at the tracing underneath. Actually the reason I want to try it is because I can wash it off and do another painting on it to save money on paper. Mylar can fold easily after a class so that is an advantage. Yeah I know... it is kind of tacky looking, but if you see what some artists are doing with huge portaits (ceiling to floor) on them, you would change your mind. In next reply will send name of artist you have to look up.

I've seen Stan Miller use a clear overlay to test different backgrounds for portraits. I guess this would work the same way even though it isn't completely clear, you could lay this over a painting and test different backgrounds to see which looked better. Otherwise, I'm not seeing its usefulness when I use a very strong lightbox to check the accuracy of my work.
