Do you know what kind of paint is used on the backing of costume jewelry? It has a mirror effect and makes them shiny and pop? It appears golden grown when they are turned on their face, is it some kind of mirror paint? I have alot of gems I need to glue down, and the glue stops the sparky effect. Do you know the name or model #? Thanks

Hello, We are not aware of a specific paint to use. We would recommend using a clear glue such as E6000 as not to hinder the color or reflection of the gemstone. Here is a link to the E6000: www.firemountaingems.com/5601BS.html As for the mirror effect, many rhinestones and some gems may have a foil backing added that will help to reflect the color without allowing the material underneath to show through. We do not have any specific products to recommend for "foiling" gems yourself, but some people have tried adding thin disks of silver to the back to give the mirroring effect. I absolutely LOVE Lisa Pavelka UV Resin. I've been using it for years! And it's the only resin for making jewelry that I have ever used that cures fast and completely hardened in sunlight. I'm just sad that Michael's doesn't carry it anymore, nor does Hobby Lobby. 😞

If Magic Gloss is UV resin, does it eventually yellow?

Curing in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time under the sun may result in some yellowing of the gloss. Also, continual or long-term exposure to direct sunlight can cause some darkening/yellowing over time.

I've been using Magic Gloss for 6 years and it has never once turned yellow. I've used it for countless jewelry projects and cured them in sunlight without incident.
