I think the same way as you, from when I first started makin' beats I always keeped it mine even though I take elements from my favorite producers like Dilla, Premier, DJ Shocca, Kanye, NOON, Nujabes. I think that when we like something we try to emulate that and when we emulate that we add our own things and even adding elements from different producers gives us a own sound and style.

Dilla was influenced by Q-Tip, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Dr Dre to name a few. He was inventive but he was the sum of his inspirations and became more because he wasn't trying to be them. I'm a big Dilla and Madlib fan but I don't want to be them. Despite me including their influence within my approach as a producer.
