Thanks for your video. Maybe I'm a bit dim, but I could do with a summary of required steps, as some parts seem unclear. 1 - Prepare solution, violin rosin + volatile solvent (alcohol or acetone) 2 - Spread solution on metal to be engraved, let it dry tacky 3 - Produce a vector-based image on computer 4 - Print image on paper using an inkjet printer 5 - Place piece of transfer film over printed image, matt-side uppermost & stick it down using masking tape 6 - Print image on the transfer film 7 - Place transfer film matt-side down on metal to be engraved & burnish it Q1 - Are the steps above correct? Q2 - Doesn't the masking tape & transfer film on the paper jam the printer? Q3 - Why not print the image directly onto a sheet of transfer film?

Hey Ronald. Great question. Your list seems spot on. On your last point about printing directly onto the film. You could do this although i feel it can save on the film when you just use only what you need just in case something goes wrong. The tape should be fine I usually put it on the ends of the acetate not on the sides as when it goes through the printer it help prevent the lose end getting picked up by the printer and coming off. Yer once you’ve cut it or scribed it you can just wipe it off with some acetone or nail polish remover

Nice videos, could use more volume on your audio please. Quick question, is your solution Isopropyl alcohol with rosin or is it Acetone with rosin? That detail was not clear for me, THANKS! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences.

What film . Did you use pal , i normally do the laserjet method but going to give the inkjet ago

What printer are you using? I find this method only works with the epson duraprint ink. Also instead of the rosin I use artist dammer with a touch of rubbing alcohol.

Use a matte Metal paint called rustoleum :) Glad you enjoyed

It didn't work. I can't get the ink to transfer to the metal. It left behind an impression so I followed along the lines with a 9H pencil but I really need to be able to do this for more complex designs.

It can be a bit a bit fiddly at first but with some experimenting you will get it. It could be the strength of your solution as well as the printer you are using. I have details to the printer I use in either this video or another. Keep at it 👍

Alcohol and acetone are not the same thing, have you used both? Is either one acceptable?

Basically what is required is just a high purity acetone or alcohol that evaporates fast and dissolves the rosin. Try whatever you have to hand and give it a go. :)
