An up-and-coming attorney takes on a case to sue the Catholic Church for discrimination against a young woman who desperately wants to become a priest. In a world where gender equality is a critical issue, the Church remains steeped in tradition. As the trial unfolds and divine authority is challenged, their lives become in danger as extremists plot to stop the heresy at any cost.

Created Equal has a plot that simply could not happen. A nun wishes to go to a Catholic seminary in order, ultimately, to become a priest. However, the Catholic Church and the popes have been adamant....men, alone, can become priests. So, the woman approaches a law firm in order to sue the Church into accepting her to the seminary because she is being discriminated against by not being allowed in the program. While I could see someone wanting to sue for this right, finding a law firm or a court willing to try tackling the issue in the United States is problematic, as this clearly violates the notion of religious freedom. Lawmakers and judges simply do not nor could they create religious doctrine. However, the filmmakers who made Created Equal have also managed, somehow, to make the story interesting and compelling.
Sister Batista (Edy Ganem) is an unhappy nun. She is feeling unfulfilled in this role and feels that God has called her to be the first Catholic female priest. This seemingly unwinnable case is given to a hot-shot lawyer known for always setting cases without taking them to court. Tom Reilly (Aaron Tveit) plans on convincing the Sister to drop the case or accept a cash settlement. After all, he seems like a cynical guy who is much more interested in making partner at the law firm than actually doing anything else. However, something unusual happens...over time, Sister Batista wins him over and convinces him that they might just be able to win the case. Up against them is a lawyer and priest (Lou Diamond Phillips) as well as a psycho intent on stopping her at any price.
The acting and direction in this film was pretty good...and that made a seemingly ludicrous story actually work. I also liked the local color given to the story by filming it around New Orleans. My only quibble, other than the basic idea, is the big confrontation scene with the would-be killer...it didn't quite work for me. But solid acting, tension and uniqueness make this an entertaining flick."

But seems that Christ specifically commissioned his apostles & gave them authority over demons & such. They were all men. Then when reappearing to his apostles after his death, breathed on them & gave them authority to forgives sins & preach the Gospel. Then Paul says in 2 Tim. 2: 9 6 "For which cause I admonish thee, that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee, by the imposition of my hands" ...so therefore commissioned by Paul's authority given to him by Peter (Cephas) . & in Galatians 2 ; 9: " And when they had known the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship: that we should go unto the Gentiles," so in affect commissioned as well So it was a calling but verified & authorized by a comission given by authority

But there's still the issue of the male hierarchy of the church not wanting women priests. We all can see that the Pope is not God; that's been proven throughout history with all the corrupt Pope's the Roman church has had, and I emphasize Roman. Roman is not the same as catholic. Rome is corrupt.

Going to biblical collège getting certificats in biblical studies are wonderful and degrees but no one needs a title to share the Gosbel when God sends you on a mission all doors he will open.preist, Evangelist, minister, Révérend, pastor must all be called by God anointed by God. He will tell you what if any your title will be. The two Mary's were never apostles. The Virgin Mary was Christ's mother and as such had her own special role as Mother of Christ and Mother towards his apostles, definitely not the same role as an apostle. Mary Magdalene became a disciple along with many other men and women. The apostles were the chosen 12 and their role was a vocation to lead disciples and spread the good news and teaching the Gospel of the Lord, to the ends of the earth.

Wrong. The judge was in error for not dismissing the case at the outset. All other arguments aside, the trial was an exercise in futility. No church can be compelled to ordain a priest. That is entirely outside any court's jurisdiction.

Some of Ali's answers during the trial had not much weight as far as I can see. It makes no sense for her to drag everyone through all this, she obviously doesn't believe in the Catholic teachings if she doesn't believe in the authority given to it to decide whether a woman can become a priest or not. So if she believes that then how can she trust that the church has the authority for making her a priest in the first place? Find a different religion then maybe. And that argument that she was attacked & almost killed b/c she wanted to be a priest was not valid as the attacker was not on any way connected to the church but was a crazy person not able to reason rationally. The church has some extraordinary & inspiring writings from woman in the Catholic church who where named Doctors of the Church & are very much appreciated & valued

Wonderful movie! A lot to say of course..., but what impressed me most (as a woman) was when she mentioned about Joan d'Arc - I had tears in my eyes. Born and raised in the eastern Europe (Romania) I never thought about any difference in value between women and men. I was very, very surprised to learn about this after crossing the ocean to the N. Funny - the Roman Catholics accept married clergy from Anglican, Lutheran and Methodist traditions which makes those priests born and raised in the Catholic religion shake their heads. Might add the what many people call "Greek Catholics" ( not Orthodox ) allow priests to be married (not get married ) and they are a valid part of the Papacy! Some of the Apostles were also married. Anyway, they now have Communion services lead by women but the Host has been consecrated by a priest. Some of these concessions are being made because too few men want to go into the priesthood. The Anglicans are the only priests allowed to enter the Catholic Church as married men. It has to be approved by the Vatican and they minister to other former Anglicans In the Anglican Ordinariate. Lutherans and Methodist pastors are not accepted as preachers because they are not ordained. Anglican Priests have Sacraments which include Ordination. Lutherans and other denominations do not believe in the Real Prescence. They would have to convert but still would not be a priest. Catholic Riests have at least 10 years of study and formation.

The reason woman are not allowed to be priests is ... during their menstrual cycle they are considered unclean and not fit for the alter of God. Similarly, in Islam woman are not allowed in temple when they are having their period.

A super movie showing that what you do and how you live the gospel is more important than having the church to back you up or having numerous seminary certificates, diplomas, degrees, master degrees or a doctorate in theology would not mean much if you flaunt it instead of living the gospel life as what Jesus commands you to live by. Greater accountability and resonsibility lie in the learned one, particularly, when one is a scholar or leader in Christianity. A leader or scholar can also betray the gospel as well as become a bad ambassador and example and also stumble others in getting to know more about Christianity if s/he acts, behaves, does, feels, things bad things.

Catholic Church and those people proclaiming to be Christ, and let’s not forget about all of those pastors unscrupulous taking the money of poor people for them to live a luxurious life! Christ could have anything he wanted, however no only he born in meaningless place, he didn’t need a private plane to spread the gospel. HONESTLY!

According to Genesis Man who is male and female is made in God's image. Thus as Paul stated no difference. Adam means human. Humans are both male and female. Once a human is made into a 'living soul' that fhuman will eventually be awakened and given an Eve aka life with its own Riyb. Riyb old English aka to strive, contend. Good movie no doubt so as the storyline should I say highly commend the spectacular cast of actors and the directorial job. All in one, rated the movie as perfect for those who are heretics not really for Catholics especially for those who truly believe the catholic doctrines. Big ironies in life both practicing catholic (the nun & the lawyer) and highly intellectual but so dumb to understand the basic tenets. This what makes this movie hilarious in some points.

Catholics practice Cathecism not TRUE Bible teaching. Catholics Beliefs and Faith is based STRICTLY on Pope's decisions, NOT on TRUE God's, Biblical doctrine. As well, Catholics changed a God's Holly Day, 7 day of the week to, Sunday, the 1st day of the week. So Cathecism is a MAN MADE RELIGION. NOT a TRUE Bible teaching.
