So nice, Bonny 🌷 I don’t like pastels, too because of dust. I have to 🤧 and it’s really unhealthy, and solvent are unhealthy too of course. I had so much fun and gorgeous results with blending the pencils with walnut oil on Pastelmat. First the oil and then the pencils. Wow. So much fun, too. The downside is, it yellows in the dark 😢 I have been experimenting with so much oils since years to find one that doesn’t yellow but without success

I've also found that the holbein are lovely as base layers. I wouldn't use as top layers.

I wouldn’t use Holbeins on pastelmat using this technique as they are soft and sticky so won’t move around 🥰

Do you do your backgrounds last or first?

I start top Left and work through the drawing incorporating the background in as I go 🥰
