That makes me so hsppy to hear! I think it's so valuable to share the process, as it's such an crucial element to the finished product, and as you say it really helps with explaining all the work and thought that goes into this process. And most indie pattern companies do this pretty much solo, at least when starting out

Your video is a wonderful overview for the new indie designer! As a pattern maker / pattern grader myself, I 100% agree with your advice that it is best to outsource the grading to someone who has the specialized software. Grading in illustrator "can" be done, but never accurately and it takes 10x longer to accomplish. Illustrator does not have grading-specific tools for performing the tasks, and checking each seam line of each size to make sure everything matches.

Yes enormous effort and hard work goes into drafting patterns. I have just drafted a few samples for personal use using CorelDraw and Abode Illustrator. Wishing you great success in your venture into the indie pattern world.

I've been getting spoiled lately. I actually won't even consider pdf patterns that don't offer layers and copy shop format. I'm so glad that you are doing that with your patterns.

Thank you! This fear of making ALL sizes for my patterns is so scary it has stopped me from making clothes for people. But this video helps so much.

Yes it is a lot! I was so happy to leave this step off to pro who can do it in a manner of hours, and much better too. So to me it was a worthwhile investment

I definitely appreciate the work involved as an Adobe CC suite user. Avoiding distortion can be resolved at the camera stage using lenses that have a flatter field such as enlarging lenses. However, Lightroom will use the lens profiles to remove a lot of those distortions. In Illustrator the image files can be traced with the inbuilt option and refined. I find it faster than pen tracing manually. However for most people the CC Suite is a big investment being a contracted monthly subscription and steep learning curves for a beginner. Even with my graphical skills I return to pencils and pattern making tools to develop a pattern and pattern fit before making a block. I wish you great success in your venture into the indie pattern world.

Thank you for your insightful input! The lens correction function is awesome in Adobe, but I would still need to double check this right with real measurements?
