Thanks! You will not be disappointed. Try not to slowly turn the deer to where you want them to go, hard right turns can be a tough sell. When you get to "The Pinch" and you have a few intersecting trails, consider a mock scrape or a water hole as well. This will really make this one spot very attractive. Speaking from personal experience, I highly recommend drawing out the long term habitat improvement plan prior to beginning making improvements. We bought 50 acres a few years ago, and not having hunted previously began doing clearing work, building a cabin, etc... without consideration for whitetail habitat. We are now having to work around those improvements as we develop a plan to maximize our property. Part of that work-around is reversing some of the previous clearing work. hApPiE hUnTiNg

Great question! The West and South side of this property is a cow pasture, the deer really do not like being anywhere near the cattle. So I would simply walk the neighbors pasture (with permission) to and from that stand. In three years this was one stand / access route that I did not bump any deer. Cows weren't always very happy I was in their space but at least I knew the deer wouldn't be there!

I think he detailed in previous videos that he uses the property line. He progressively moves deeper into the property later in the season

For this stand I can only hunt it during the morning as it is away from a majority of the afternoon food and it is where a lot of deer / bucks bed during the hunting season. I also can only hunt that stand with some sort of a North wind, anything from the South and I have to hunt from different stands. To get to the Southern half of this property I received permission from the neighbor to the West to access through his cow pasture along our shared border. I have a hinge cut screen / wall on my property border for most of the North half (need to complete the Southern half) which allows me to walk in his cow pasture without the deer on my property ever seeing / hearing me. I walk that edge South then cut over East, then walk North about 40 yards into that stand. The best access scenario would be to ask the same neighbor if I could park my car on the road 800 yards South of the stand, walk straight north through a different cow pasture. The way his access road is, this would allow me walk in with a berm on 2 sides all the way to my Southern border. Hope that helps!

The shirt makes the videos! But I do not think I am going to plant these trails in clover, at least I don't have plans to right now. The overall plan is to have most of the green food / soft mast (apples / pears) on the North half to give the deer a reason to move North in the afternoon. The Southern half I want to have several pockets of thick nasty areas that deer prefer to bed in. Over time this should make the daily movement more consistent with hunting the South in the morning as the deer move back to bed and then hunt the North in the evenings as the deer move to to food plots. I do love the clover trails though. Not just from a hunting / habitat aspect but just from spending so much time in the woods. Visually, they are awesome to walk down.

You are very knowledgeable and have done the right things to improve your property and influence deer movement, but your property is a relatively narrow piece which allows very little impact while entering and leaving your stands. There is a whole new aspect to hunting and property layout, when you have to walk 1/4 mile of more, through the woods before getting to your hunting setup. Your setup, access and departure must be created to minimize spooking deer, both predawn and evening. It would be interesting and challenging for you to setup a 120 acre or bigger parcel, with these challenges in mind. (I think you can do it.)

You are absolutely correct Gary, every property is different and requires a different plan. The one shown in this video is very long and narrow. This presented big opportunities along with challenges. The key is to capitalize on the opportunities while doing everything you can to correct / address the problems. This property here was our previous home and a great example to show landowners how they can still have success on smaller properties. My approach to setting up a larger parcel is not much different, similar design themes, except with larger parcels I would likely push inside the property borders more. Not much, but I'd push in more than 20 yards.. Good luck this season!
