Last September, my fiancé and I was traveling. I woke up early in the hotel, watched this video while drinking coffee, thought it over, and by lunchtime I told my fiancé that I saw this video of a guy making a ring from wood and I wanted to buy a lathe to make my wedding ring the same way he did. In May I bought a Rikon Midi sized variable speed lathe. I’ve been practicing and I’m confident enough to give this project a shot. We are getting married May of 2020. Wish me luck and thank you for the video!

John Techs rings done! I actually made three. Copper was a little intimidating and my skin is sensitive so I used a premade titanium core. I matched that with a titanium wire inlay. I didn’t do a great job with the UV resin on the first ring. The second one was perfect but I picked a core that was a little big. The third one is the winner. Unfortunately it’s sitting in my safe and I’m unmarried. With COVID, we delayed our wedding by a year. I’ll see if I can link up an image of the final ring in my google drive.

@@BlkHunterGatherer Thanks for the update! Im sorry to hear that your wedding was delayed. Ours was supposed to be a lot bigger but instead of delaying we downsized to only 20 guests. I'm interested because I'm getting married in about 10 days and I have already purchased all the tools to make my ring, I'm also using a pre-made titanium core, but I already had the lathe so I didn't have to buy a whole lot. I'd love to know more about your experience with the titanium wire if you care to share.

I still think this is one of your finest rings. The apparent simplicity of the finished product belies the effort involved in making it. It really is a thing of beauty. One of these days, when I can afford to, I will become a customer! In the meantime I will continue to be hypnotised by your "making of" videos. Bravo.

Sticking your fingers inside a rotating piece of powered machinery (12:52) gives me the willies. I once worked with a guy who, for unknown reasons, stuck his finger into the hollow shaft of a rotating buffer wheel. Now when he sees someone he knows he gives them a high four.

Same day delivery! Doesn’t want to be a world dictator controlled by the role play shop. The idea that one must create a stream to change culture by sourcing from the foundations of what it seeks to change, isn’t exactly divisive 👀. But after the 4 years or so it’s taken to make it, it takes the public only a few days to consume; that belief there. I mean if you were genuinely trying to get rid of all satellite, people might ask, 1. if you have a legitimate logical reason? And 2. What would your suggestion be for a replacement navigational system? And I wonder how people could waste a lifetime pondering philosophy. In locality the wind and tv appear to rule peoples beliefs and values.

Come again? He leaves alot out. Plus he added a trick designed to ruin and set people back with his "tips". 1. He intentionally left out why his Q Tip was turning black while he was polishing the inside. I of course know why that is and he also did it wrong by skipping the follow up step to that, thus his cooper is not mirror shiny. 2. When he verbally tells people to use a heat gun when cleaning up the excess it is a trick and it will melt the finshing line causing the entire ring to fall into the Alumi-UV. 3. He doesn't discuss grain orientation when cutting the veener strips. 4. He leaves out the wet sanding and buffing of the fishing string node. 5. He leaves out lathe speeds that could fling Alumi-UV back at people who don't know better. This is one of the most masterful jerk around tutorials I have ever watched.

I just found this channel and pretty much immediately subscribed. I've seen plenty of other people make cool rings or other workshop-type stuff, but you seem genuinely interested in your viewers being able to understand what and how you make these rings - even be able to do it themselves. I really appreciate your detailed, intuitive, and educational explanations throughout the video, keep it up!! Lastly, I agree with your statement, "less is more". Some workmen sometimes over complicate their designs, causing a crowding effect with the materials. It takes a humility as an artist and a true understanding of one's craft to design something that just allows the natural beauty of the materials really shine.

Well done, I tried my first ring this evening and I have to say, the blue painters tape is NOT the way to go, need masking tape for sure. Plus my wood was maybe not the right kind of wood to try my first ring with as it broke multiple time trying to get the paint off. I did manage to salvage some of it and glue it back on after I put the piece of copper in and rolled it. Now it's setting up with the CA glue and will have to continue this tomorrow, we shall see how mine turns out. Kudo's to you man, keep up the excellent work...

Try running your strip under water, then wrap it in a damp paper towel, and put it in the microwave for 12 seconds. Wrap it loose, and repeat, wrapping it tighter each time, until it's tight enough to wrap around the pipe. It works well.

This is strikingly beautiful. So simple, and the contrast in colour is perfect 🙂

Love it. My only suggestion would be instead of a blunt cut on the copper ends, to do a scarf joint for a more seamless look.

I enjoyed your video and its good because you got some background music playing which helps to keep you awake, I mean this in the best possible way because I usually am falling asleep to some jewellery making videos as some of them are REALLY boring to watch even though the finished product is usually good

It is mesmerizing just watching the intricate process of polishing until it becomes smooth... Hopefully, I can get one or I can order a ring with special type of materials...

What a fantastic process, in my OCD defence its not quite in the centre so maybe change your Vernier callipers or be more careful . inspired to have a go though . thanks for sharing.

Tbh I like how it looked mid work right after shaving off that wire, those little reddish-golden sparkles and kinda uneven surface were super cool. (I love uneven surfaces, ale I'm not alone, edges and legs of my rustic furniture are shaped by hand with a chisel or even a knife :3)

I loved the opals and black resin. I was ok with the size of the opals. You didn’t really ask my opinion, but I’m not sure I could work with anything smaller.
