I stopped watching KZbin over the last many weeks.... since early spring. So tired of all age politics and lies and and covid and the depressing narrative. It was leaving me very upset. Anyway, a couple or three weeks ago, I needed something positive to lift my spirits. I cancelled all the news channels ... bar one or two neutral facts only ones, and a couple of bloggers, but all the gardeners I loved over the years remain. I am so very pleased I made the choices I did.. I am so happy to have watched your post this morning! It will be a beautiful fall weekend here on the Canadian prairies and I will be in my garden putting it to bed! I happen to have a number of galvanized steel planter liners from a trading site, sitting taking up space in my garage! I think I will adopt your vision and place them out in the garden and next spring they will be ready to bring new life to neglected corners. They will freeze solid over the winter! but I can overwinter some plants in an in ground pond, or the garage! Thank you for the inspiration and just for being good for my spirits.

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada. I am originally from the Island of Newfoundland on Canada's east coast, where the pitcher plant is the Provincial Flower...I remember seeing these alot in boggy areas. a nice reminder of home. Your pond is well done, very Pretty. Thanks for your videos, they are an inspiration for this Plant Junkie... Cheers from across the pond.

Blimey it’s you!! WOW I used to watch your channel regularly years ago but then for some reason YT stopped showing me when you upload and I haven’t seen one in what seems an eternity. Anyhoo this has just showed up whilst I was watching something totally unrelated (yea good job KZbin) so here I am again after all this time. Great video, love the pond. PS if you want some power down there you should have a look into the EcoFlow or Bluetti LiFePO4 battery systems. You could stick a 200w solar panel on your shed roof and then just hook up to the solar battery and you would have pretty much unlimited 240v and 12v power for anything you need such as bubblers, pumps, lights, even boiling an electric kettle for a brew.

Lovely, I sank a large plastic reservoir partially into the ground but as the rear of it is next to a camellia bush I raised the soil at the back so it’s level for wildlife to climb in , bricks and gravel at the bottom to provide habitat for creatures, plants have grown well so as my garden borders fields and I have steep bankings which get a bit wild and overgrown in summer I’m sure to get frogs or toads laying in it, but no 3 years on not a single tadpole, so maybe small fish may be the answer, I would be interested to know what variety you eventually buy. I did enjoy watching you create your pond and look forward to updates .

Love this! I have a passion for plants and ponds. Besides several ponds and a bathtub pond outdoors, I have a pitcher plant indoors and I think I will try planting it in lava rock as you have done to give it more hydration. Currently I have it sitting in a plate of pebbles with water but this is a wonderfl idea! Thank you for sharing.

Looks Great ! Consider raising the air pump above water level , This will make it more powerful and also the pump will last longer as its not under as much stress.

What a great job, I was surprised to see all the plants you were putting in a fairly small tank, but in the end it all looked very pleasely balanced. We have a ground level pond for years now. We first had some plants and fish, the raccoons took the fish rather quickly. Fast forward, we now only have a water pump and water fountain for circulation. I love your plants and look forward to seeing your efforts evolve. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊

That’s really cool, I might try something like that next year. Looking forward to seeing what type of fish you put in. As a kid, I was always fascinated by looking at pond life through a microscope, as an old guy now, I always think about taking up that hobby again. This would be a great source for microscopic critters.

I have just taken the surface temperature of my tank pond which was 26C - 15.38 on 14/08/22. There is no way I can shade the pond and I have had great problems with blanket weed this year and as the pond sits in full sun for most of the day, it's not surprising and possibly I should think of a different regime. It has been a great success for the last four years and the pond plants grow really well. I shall probably follow your new pond ideas so I will follow your progress with interest. Thank you for yet another charming and informative video.

Interesting video! BTW, in addition to providing O2, the pond plants will suck-up excess nutrients produced by the fish, which will reduce algae growth and help to keep the water clear. And the roots provide a great habitat for juvenile fish to hang out.

Wonderful project Katrina and a brilliant piece of inspiration for anyone building a smaller type of water feature. The textbooks would have us believe a pond shouldn't be any smaller than 2x3 metres . Portable too when drained down enough to lift and keep the fish alive.

I'm fascinated by the insectivores too. I've seen the video with the pumice stone - it's an interesting channel. I have sundew in a couple of indoor terrarium jars and a couple of Sarracenia in another container . My pride and joy was a Nepenthes in a large jar with other insectivores. You can see the pitcher size in the thumbnail. A beauty! I tried talking to the camera as I repotted it on its own: tried cutting off a pup plant that it had produced and...mistakenly cut the main plant's stem! I am now nursing the baby plant since the parent died. Have you ever heard of butterwort being grown at home? I see them weekly during hikes (in Scottish highlands) but resist taking one from the wild. Best of luck with your projects!...Terry

Years ago I ve had a summer pond for my turtle on my roof garden. It was filled with gravel and I ve had strong grasses and Iris in baskets / pots. It became too hot , couldnt controle the algues. Although I ve cleaned and refreshed the water. ( With a turtle its necessary) . I just have an insect and bird bath instead nowadays. But I really like your water project, especially the plants in the lava . You have more shadow ... I hope dragon flies will settle down there.
