Creating Ambient Drone Music with Korg Monotron Delay & Monotron Duo | Tutorial

In this tutorial, we'll explore how to craft mesmerizing ambient drone music using only the Korg Monotron Duo and Monotron Delay. It may be surprising, but The Monotron Duo can be an amazing drone synthesizer!
We'll connect both synths to a small mixer to blend the sounds, then route the mixer's output to a pedal for spatial effects (Zoom MS70 CDR). Using a simple hair clip to hold a key on the Monotron Duo, we'll create a sustained note for our drone, adjusting oscillators and filters to shape the sound.
With the Monotron Delay, we'll add another layer of spatial and cinematic tones, utilizing delay effects to enhance the atmosphere. Live improvisation will guide us in finding complementary notes, adjusting attack and release using the filter. We'll experiment with delay and modulation to generate spatial and mysterious sounds.
Our final touch will be the Zoom MS70 CDR, where a carefully crafted patch with reverb and modulation effects will add movement and depth to our soundscape.

I'm feeling quite inspired by this, I have just taken delivery of these two synths, because I have wanted to play with them for years, so I'm now trawling Amazon for a cheap chorus and delay pedal with some patch cables, I might have a trawl through FB market place too. I had the idea of doing my own music for some of the dashcam footage I have of me charging about Wales in by crappy fiat.

yes of course you could use the NTS-1 instead of the Delay in this setup, but the result would quite different since the 2 machines have a very different sound and attitude. It would be interesting to explore though.

I have chosen the Zoom as my effects device in my aux mixer loop allowing the analog signal to be controlled and included. I also own a Strymon NightSky effects device, I can't tell much difference between the two.

It's such a great pedal, although there are phase issues when using aux return but there are ways around it.

Hardware electronic music requires a huge amount of gear to do. This set up is super minimal All it is is 2 sources of audio, an effects processor, and a way to get the audio from the sources to the effects. That is honestly about as minimal as you are going to get when doing electronic music.
