Creating an atmospheric background with Panpastel on Pastelmat

Panpastel backgrounds! I LOVE to mix these soft, colourful backgrounds with my realistic animal subjects and it's one of the elements of my art that I'm most often questioned about.
This video takes you through my process, from applying the initial layer, dealing with the 'ugly stage' all the way to creating the softness and blends in the final piece.

Dark grey Clairefontaine Pastelmat
Various Panpastels
Sofft tools
Scotch Magic Tape
Tombow Mono Eraser
and last but not least Kitchen Towel!
