The Egyptian hieroglyphics are similar to an Emoji language, so we've had something like this before, and actually Chinese is also based on logograms, the classic example you see everywhere is big 大 is a man (人) with outstretched arms. The writing system is actually used across several languages so even though people might say big differently they can still communicate in writing.
@conjecturemm8 жыл бұрын
Jabril's video mentioned heiroglyphs, too! And that was the hope of a writing-only language called blissymbolics, that even if there is no spoken counterpart people should still be able to communicate cross-culturally through text.
@Rolando_Cueva4 жыл бұрын
Kind of. The basic Chinese characters are logograms, but the most complex characters use a combination of a phonetic component and a meaning component.

You made a language out of emojis (admittedly with some help from people you've never met), constructed an open lexicon for the public to use and add to, and organized everything in a neat and tidy video. And you only have 1,880 views. Someone get this guy an advertising campaign, because you TOTALLY deserve more recognition.

*rubbing hands together* sooo, this has pretty great potential! A hurdle for the useability of this language would be obviously the interface, in theory one could type this language very fast, this could give it a nieche useage, we have to think about that. also internationality would be a huge plus (I know english exists but still! ) if you are interested i would contribute to this project, i had a few linguistics and communication courses in college Great video, i think i will dig into this idea a bit more in the next days :).

Oh yeah I've tried this before, but I only used emoji and not like the little modification thingies. It'll be interesting to check out what you decided on for the lexicon. Mine was kinda inconsistent but it was still fun. Honestly I think I'd also like to see what would happen if people were to just started talking only in emoji and see what system would evolve from that. If anyone wants to try that we should figure out a way.

I tried this as well without the little modification thingies, using 👈🕒 for past tense, since going left in time means going backwards, and ✍️ for I, since I wrote (or typed) this sentence. I also made pronunciations for the emojis loosely based off of English words, and came up with ways to quickly write them on paper with a speed similar to English.

maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way or maybe not, but at the beginning before knowing how emojis were used like, I thought that they were a kind of from kanjis but maybe more user-friendly. For example, instead of writing I like to play guitar I just abbreviate the word guitar using its corresponding emoji.

You may have developed the writing system for English, but I don't see why you couldn't translate it and apply it to other languages. For example one could write in English with emojis, "She drives to the store," and another person would be able to read in Spanish, "Ella conduce a la tienda." Theoretically, as long as the people speaking different languages all used the same writing style with emojis there would be no need for translations.
@conjecturemm7 жыл бұрын
that's true, if there is a mapping of symbols to concepts then it is theoretically doable! But that would still be a universal writing system, not a spoken language
