Creating bear fur without a chainsaw ! I will be using a saburrtooth burr and a die grinder to carve the fur on this chainsaw carving . This works good on a smaller bear carving .

Thanks, just got some sabertooth burrs for the die grinder and was thinking of doing this exact thing so seeing an example of it made my decision easier. Plus I liked how you put the date on your die grinder for the warranty. I should have done that also.

Another great tutorial Kyle, I've been studying your bears and seem to admire the way that you produce them. You did say if anyone had any questions, so I'd like to add that I've noticed that most of your bears seem to have fairly sad faces, this is not a criticism, but perhaps the curve in the mouth needs to be more emphasised and makes more of a Happy bear as it seems to be in most of your videos. Also, can you carve one or two that show the mouth open, this would be especially helpful. I remain a true fan of your work.

Another excellent tutorial. I have tried using my regular chainsaw and my fur just doesn't look good. I do have a die grinder and the bits already but didn't know how to use them. I am going to use this technique and redo my carvings. I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks again for your explanations and up close views.

Hey Kyle, in the process of acquiring either the MS 170 with a dime tip.....or the MSA 120 C-B 12 in. electric. the reason I am torn is that I live on the lake with neighbors fairly close and I am sensitive to the. continuous noise. With the electric model i could work in my shop and eliminate the noise issue. If I bought two batteries do you think I could make this work. Stihl USA says they dont have a dime tip for the electric. Interested in your thoughts. jb

I’m not sure off hand if the dime tip will fit that saw I’ll have to do some looking. I know it will fit the AP line saws Msa160 Regardless 2 batteries is usually enough.

Hi Kyle! Are you using a 43 gauge chain, on a 50 gauge bar? That what stihl set up for me, I thought it was in error. Or, do they have a 43 gauge bar?

Good question. They offer a 50 and a 43 gauge bar and chain . At least that’s how my dealer offered it to me . I can double check tonight

That's a Stihl fvckup for sure. You can't use a 43 gauge chain on a 50 gauge bar. The bar will be bigger than the cut. Also the 43 gauge chain would lean because the groove would be too big for the chain drive lugs. You CAN use a 50 gauge chain in a very worn 43 gauge bar groove but that's a hack and not something that Stihl would sell you. They make both a 43 and 50 gauge for most smaller saws.

My new bar is .43 gauge bar part # 30050003105 and the chain is .43 gauge chain part # 36700050074. As stated above you cannot mix and match the bar and chain sizes .
