Wow, you took that flat boring pic of a house with yard and just made it pop! I've been a slave to the colors in a photo for years - not knowing I COULD make changes like this to bring life to the painting. Yet another "knock it out of the park" video!

A real pleasure to see theory put into practice. By changing the playback speed to 0.25 and muting the volume during the timelapse, you see the application of what you spoke about as well as appreciate the sublety and nuances of your style. Frankly, I'd be calling the quick colour study a finished work because of the energy.

Thanks, sometimes the studies work better than larger finished paintings

true, all my quick 6x8's are much better than even going "way way up" to reproduce it in an 8x10, LOL :D@@philstarke.artist

I have just discovered your channel and am learning so much in terms of what goes on prior to even picking up a paint brush. This is fantastic. I knew that so much more went into composition and use of color but it would take me several attempts of repainting my acrylic paintings to get it right. In the end, I did not really know how to avoid the same mistake again. I love oil painting but I live in a small apartment with pets. So acrylics are what I do. Thank you. I need to watch some videos on your paint color purchases, especially greens.

I took that class from you that you were speaking about in the beginning of the video. I have referred back to it several times since just to keep refreshing my memory. It takes committing it to memory more than once so that it becomes a habit when painting. Another nice little study Phil. Thanks so much for sharing your talent here.

Spring in Georgia, and I’m trying to capture all of the awesome fields (with cows) and gorgeous greens. Thank you for all of your expert tips Phil! Those lighter more “ lemony yellow” leaves are so prevalent in early spring, like no other time of the year. So, I need that balance of violets and other colors to make it work. So, thx! 🖌🎨. Plein April…game on. 🌳🍃🥁👩🏻🎨

Very helpful! I live in PA and have found the summer greens overwhelming to paint. Your method of color variations makes so much sense and I’m anxious to try it out. Also love watching you paint!

Yes, in spring in most of the USA grass is green, but here in AZ the only really green grass is to be found on a golf course!! LOL. And no sane person wants to paint a golf course. I say that since I don't golf myself and subscribe to what Mark Twain said about the game, or words to the effect: "A lovely walk, ..ruined"!! LOL Yup here in southern AZ, desert "greens" are some shades of brown or silver-gray except for Palo Verdes which are a nice bright yellow if you need an accent or something to catch the eye, and of course in northern AZ, it's pine trees, cotton woods and aspens too.
