is it possible to fill any object with cubes in mash? Like a human body from tron legacy movie? I tried with a human face with voxel setting but the cubes wont fill the inside of human head completely. I tried modifying the pivot of the mash cube. The centroids of mash cubes and faces of human head mesh were coincided. I have tried adjusting the voxel size settings as well as scaling the cube. it wont work! is there anyway to achieve that? filling inside an object?(not like filling a jar using mash dynamics but like from the tron movie) i would very much appreciate some help, plz...

here from the maya 2020 version. It's impossible for me to get roughly equal sized triangular faces as demonstrated no matter how i adjusted my sliders.

meaning it doesn't look like the playblast or frame render instead it's blocky.

Were you using mental ray or another renderer like Arnold? The default Software/Hardware renderers won't give you the best final result.

i notice that in maya 2017 the random node has different attribute and the minimum maximum values are no more present. how ever can i obtain the same result using the new random node?

Yeah, it's a little different now. What you would do is first, make sure the Distance value on the Distribute node is set to 0. Then, in the Random node, just blast the Position X, Position Y, and Position Z values to a really high value.

hi there, nice tutorial. I´ve got a problem where you put the "random" node on the MASH. How do you add the "random" node to the position only? I don´t get the dropdown menu like in your video, i can only add the random node without choosing where on my translations to put.

ok i´ve found the 2 sliders "Max Number" & "Min Number", they are under "Strength PP" now. But they don´t have any effect. I think that´s another bug within maya and the newest version. Hopefully it´ll get fixed the next 10 Years :) maybe^^ rolleyes

MASH has changed a bit since this video was made. Now instead of what's shown here, you can simply select the Random node, go to the Attribute Editor, and adjust the various Position values to affect the amount of randomization in each axis. Just zero out any positions you don't want randomized.

Try adjusting the Deformable Type options shown at 2:00 while the trails are enabled.

You can use Maya's Batch Render feature to render out individual frames or movie files, then import those into AE or Photoshop. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXeppZ2JqtF2qc0m4s for an example.

Yes, you definitely can! Instead of using the a type mesh as the input object for the distribution, you can just use any other kind of mesh. We have an example of that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJOxl3SDepZ-o5Y

Are you on Maya 2016 Extension 2? It installs automatically with that extension.

If you can't find them in the Plug-ins menu then I suspect you have either 2016 or 2016 extension 1, but not extension 2.

Actually it works on any font, caps or non-caps. You just need to adjust the number of distribution points, search radius, and/or Deformable Type settings per font, because different fonts have different mesh layouts.
