This takes REAPER to yet another level. Thanks Kenny.

In other DAWs this is a one click task. Reaper is really behind in this area. There are some scripts that speed up the process, but still it is behind other DAWs in this specific area.

I use a free VST in reaper called short circuit, and it displays a midi keyboard, you can then cut/slice and drag drop pieces, or entire wav samples straight from the media explorer to whatever key you want them to be triggered by. You only need one instance of short circuit on a track to cover your entire keyboard. So... in reality, reaper already has easier ways to do this, but it’s great that Kenny is showing how to do it without any added VSTs. Once you start thinking outside the box, reaper smokes any other DAW. I have friends who use pro tools, and abelton, and I always find reaper to have equal to/better than/or same as abilities to do anything that they can do. It’s just a matter of knowing how.
@paaao5 жыл бұрын
BIG DUMMY, I’m sure there is a way to do propper sampling in reaper, and yes I use an old VST because I myself am old, and cheap. However, %99 of the people I see doing sampling in any DAW, you name one... do it with a 3rd party VST.

The real issue starts with the impossibility to drag the slicer start point lines that will become MIDI "marks". All we need at this stage is to be able to drag them and adjust them correctly. There is another very important point on this. Those MIDI points are placed by transients found on the Reaper slicer. They are really good on do that. But slicing waves is a different thing. And, almost all the time, we should start the sliced portion about 3 milliseconds before, giving more room for the SNAP of that snare, hi-hat, kick, or whatever. So, the MIDI point is one thing and the slice start point is another... So, we need a way to assign them separately and an offset set up to compensate them. Because, if I get the generated MIDI file, generated by de dynamic slicer on Reaper, after have sliced the drum loop, it will work fine in almost all cases with drum sounds replacement. Because, generally, it works really well with transients to do that. BUT talking about those sliced pieces, you'll probably get almost all snaps off, lost, wasted... And look, I am not even close to talking about the "building a drum loop sampler routine" yet. If you have a 2 bars 16/4 drum loop, full of syncopated hits, etc., how many ReaSamplOmatic5000 you'll need to set up??? Yes, that's a really great thing we can do that on Reaper. But, definitively, Reaper was NOT made for BEAT makers, RAP producers, and this kind of musical approach... You can use it, of course. That's a GREAT DAW, no doubt about it. But now I know that Reaper is a better tool for those that love to record their guitars or maybe those that are garage band members and stuff like that... Reaper is a better tool for rock, pop, country, styles, etc. than for Hip-Hop, RAP, styles... As far as I can see, the workflow for a RAP producer on Reaper needs to be crafted and adapted. Many other musical styles can open Reaper and feel at home... BTW, I bought Reaper and I LOVE it. But I really miss those tools that make me don't need to pook over the fence to other DAWs... ...like Image-Line SliceX, Phatmatik Pro, Shortcircuit, Poise (which allows drag/drop samples from Reaper arrange window to its interface, and it is very handy !), tx16w v2, LiveSlice, Geist 2, Arcdev H4xxor, Transfuser, ReCycle, Renoise Redux, Freecycle (almost impossible to find it), Looperator, Inicial Slice (My PICK, so far), HY-Slicer, Momentum, Egoist, Vice... PLEASE, REAPER lovers, at least we should have a discount to pay for some of those great slicers... ...what about that?

there could be a way of importing multiple items to multiple samplers all at once, so at least we could import our already chopped and midi-ed samples all at once by selecting everything, or just the chops we want, but still with just one action and not one by one. i know there are scripts for this but right now i can't really find an uptaded one and i very often have a lot of chops to work with. i already have a shortcut for chopping, another for creating chromatic midi and an fx chain full of samplers ready to play, but then having to import the chops one by one everytime is really time consuming and a bit frustrating

Great video, and I adore Reaper, but this workflow is absolutely horrendous, and I think to find a comparable one you'd have to go back 15 years... This is a one click, or a simple drag and drop task in most other top DAWs. Has been for like a decade. In most cases it's so simple it can be discovered by accident, or figured out within moments of trial and error. Unlike this, which has to be memorized, and if you don't do it every day you'll probably have to look up this video again next time. At least Sitala is free and has a quick midi learn. Speedrum could be another great cheap option for many workflows. Good luck friends, and happy creating! 🙏

PLEASE... Is that possible to engage the audio slice start point to the note start point and change their position in time together? Because the default slicer usually can't find all drum loops transients perfectly, so I need to move some... ...but if the MIDI doesn't moves with the audio at same time, I'll change the transients time position on audio and not on MIDI. And it will become a little mess, for sure...

@dbo5146 жыл бұрын
@@haelmichdabro3302 You just need to open Reasamplomatic as an FX and then copy and duplicate it as many times as you need sample pads. Then you assign keyboard notes for each, you can click obey note off if you like, and reduce the min vol to -inf so they become velocity sensitive. Then you right-click and save as track template, call it ''Sample Pads'' or whatever you want. Then you can insert the track template whenever you need a sampler. Record a loop that you want to sample into Reaper and then in reasamplomatic click ''Import item from arrange'' and you can edit the start and end point of the loop to isolate hits, or melody notes just like on a Maschine or an Akai Sampler. When you're happy with your choice for each pad, you can close the FX window and turn on the click track (metronome) and record a performance live with your pads or keyboard, exactly like with old school samplers.
