Try it yourself and post your results in the comments! I'll do a review video soon. Also, FCP X will have new color grading tools in 10.4, so I'll do an updated tutorial.

+Brandon Li you could also look at Blackmagics Davinci Resolve, color grading in fcp x, even premiere, looks like a toy in comparison. A lot of the editing stuff looks inspired from fcp. Basic Version is free (even the object tracking and stabilizing stuff) and only has some plugins (denoise, motion blur) missing. Downside is that it doesn't have the huge userbase and custom tutorials yet.

I don't use Resolve because it doesn't allow me a quick way to revise my color corrections and video edits at the same time. When I'm editing, I'm changing color, music, sound fx, titles, and other effects all at once. If I had to round-trip to Resolve it would be impossible.
@tubekrake7 жыл бұрын
Resolve 14 actually also improved the NLE part. So I though more about using Resolve also for editing. Though I don't know how realistic changing editors would be.
@Darksideneo7 жыл бұрын
Some workarounds are possible. You can work with source footage in Resolve without rendering by exporting xml from editing software for example.

Hi Brandon, interesting exercise and nice homework! Really cool as you have been able to fit same footage onto different audio tracks, even if similarly paced. I think music does 90% of the work in defining mood... What's your opinion about that?
@BrandonLiUnscripted7 жыл бұрын
I listen to music constantly as I edit, and I usually have a song in mind as I shoot. So yeah music is really crucial to mood.

@BobbyGiggz7 жыл бұрын
this is great. The SAD version is much more cohesive. The music is culturally appropriate and binds better with the location. The color grade, not so much. You could've used the warm tones from the HAPPY version and it still would work with the music from the SAD version. Its all subjective, but I suspect there would be a better consensus if you had done it that way. I understand we're diving into 'the making of emotive cinema', but I have a hunch that people are smarter and can make sense of it all, rather than having cinematographers decide for them, by forcing a mood with specific color. Cheers PaL. Keep doing your thing.

lighting is the best :-) hi brandon any tips on shooting on a cloudy or rainy conditions? or maybe ill just avoid shooting on those types of weather condition?
@BrandonLiUnscripted7 жыл бұрын
On cloudy days I try to raise exposure as much as possible without blowing out the skies. Skin tones turn sort of purple if they're underexposed on Sony cameras and the problem seems worse in cloudy conditions.

Nice. Great example of how color and music can make so much of an impact on mood. Quick question, Brandon. I know you use EOSHD Pro Color, but what Gamma do you usually shoot in? Is it one of the Cine gammas? Judging by the ungraded footage and the dynamic range, I would guess it was Cine 2...
@BrandonLiUnscripted7 жыл бұрын
The gamma is part of the picture profile (which costs money) so I can't say without giving away some of eoshd's value

love your videos man. not sure if the sad one looks "sad". its somber and the grade and music do make it look like that but some of the shots defintely dont fit in. i would also have used a different music for the sad one. there are pieces in the middle which dont sound too sad

@@BrandonLiUnscripted Ahan! Thanks very much Brandon. What would be the best color profile/picture profile for a6300 then? Hi Brandon. Where do you get your sound effects for your videos? Thanks

Hey Brandon, Since you shoot a lot with the same camera I do at the moment, What do you think about the 1080 60p on the a6500. I find it rather soft and not that good at all. The 4k is very nice, but I do not like the quality of the 1080. I shoot 80% of the time in 60p for ramping and slow motion and really am not that happy with the quality of the 1080 on the a6500. I sure hope the A7rIII is better since they did not put 4k 60p. Was wondering what your thoughts are as I imagine you shoot a lot of 60p also for your rating and slow motion style you use. I sold my A7sII 8 months ago before prices dropped expecting the A7sIII or A7rIII to come out, which it just recently did, and Although the AF on the A7sII was pretty bad the 60p 1080 was actually pretty good and much better than the a6500. Any thoughts? Thanks.
@BrandonLiUnscripted7 жыл бұрын
+Eric Knorpp 1080p60 sucks on a6500. I use a7sii for that. But if you can deal with the smaller sensor the gh5 will give you 4k60 so it's the best in the price range.
@ericknorpp82387 жыл бұрын
Sure hope the A7sIII will have 60 4k or yes it I will have to go with the GH5. Only I rely a lot on AFC and we all know or have read the GH5 is not that good, but I think I could deal with it as it is the only option on a smaller camera right now. I am a little disappointed the A7rIII 60p 1080 does not look much better than the a6500, but will have to wait to see what real world testing looks like. Thanks!!
@nordfresse7 жыл бұрын
If youre all about 4k 60p, you should seriously consider switching to the GH5. It can even give you that in 10bit 422 via hdmi and atomos shogun. IMO Sony is not going to give you that any time soon...
@nordfresse7 жыл бұрын
I would like to get your take on 10bit vs. 8bit when it comes to grading and HDR. I went to an electronics store today and checked out the latest HDR oled tv-sets, and I cant help but to worry that my 8bit 4k footage will pretty much useless real soon, since everybody will be cracy about HDR. A lot of your stuff would surely look stunning in HDR, do you ever worry about all your great footage not being future proof... thanks.
