“A good video without transitions is still a good video, & a bad video with transitions is still a a bad video” pure gold here bro. Thank you for saying this, huge misconceptions out there atm.
@JesseDriftwood6 жыл бұрын
A lot of people seem to think that the main thing their work is missing is transitions, when in reality it’s probably filmmaking and storytelling basics that need improving!
@michaelfrymus6 жыл бұрын
I think that a bad video with transitions is even worse. People try to hide the fact that the video is bad with transitions to make it look cooler, when it totally does the opposite
@gordonfeng83986 жыл бұрын
@@michaelfrymus Can't agree more with this bro. Actually improper use of transitions will only make video look disgusting/worse. Many great moviemakers rarely use transitions but their stories are soul-touching.

There's so much to love about this video. 😍 The advice is brilliant and the humour was great! I really enjoyed how you integrated the behind-the-scenes with the finished product & the side-by-sides. That takes careful planning and it really paid off. But my favourite part was 1:18-1:51. That is some terrific advice. Well said. One pedantic thing I figured I'd point out, however, since I'm the nerd of these parts is that you can't "dolly to the right". You truck to the right and left, and dolly forward and backward. Heh. 😜 Seriously, Jesse, this video was outstanding. It was drastly. 👍👏👌

Nice tutorial! He also used an 'in camera transition' with the use of sound. He uses J and L cuts to smooth out the hard cut transitions. For example: at 16:03 we already hear him talking for the next shot and we see the next clip a second later. This technique helps to smooth out conversations. Look it up on YT for more explanation.

unfortunately only just came across this for the first time. Something that works for me with what you said about going too fast and going past your subject. So if you transition from let's say 0% to 45% usually if you stand yourself at 22.5% angle give or take and you make sure your 45% turn is also the max you can turn you can't really skip past your subject without having to turn your lower body along.

Totally agree the point of a transition is to hide the edit. It helps the viewer focus on the story and not the process of film making itself. However, I do think a transition can be cinematic in the sense that you can compare or contrast two like or unlike subject matters.
