Because enchanting a mace isn't cheap XP wise and you can't just grind for half a session for a mending book and XP to enchant it

Putting _Mending_ on an unenchanted tool only costs like 3 to 5 levels, and you get TONS of XP just from trading with villagers (certainly more than enough to enchant a mace with an anvil at least). Sure rerolling the trades would take a while, but Mending books rarely go upwards of 20 emeralds (a single fletcher with a stick trade would do the job), if they teamed up with an ally it wouldn't take more than an hour. And for how powerful the mace would be at full durability, its more than worth it.

Idk why but I like to imagine possible random wild cards. Like it’d be hilarious if a wild card would be villagers ACTUALLY talking and saying unhinged nonsense and maybe repeat things you say in a mocking manner to the point where you get annoyed and kill them so then an iron golem tries to kill you. Or a wild card while someone is chopping down a tree, digging or killing an animal it would randomly teleport like an enderman and it’d be a wild goose chase (certain amount of hits would eventually give you what you want lol) Maybe a wild card where there’s acid or lava rain every 5-10 minutes and they have to urgently find shelter, get food- like imagine you’re out in the open no cave to hide in lol building a wooden house wouldn’t be the best option. Perhaps a wild card that rearranges your inventory every five minutes or so hahahaha like imagine you’re in the middle of fighting skeleton and out of nowhere your sword switches to torches and you have to keep rearranging your hot bar. Realizing that my ideas are just to infuriate the player lmaoooo
