Creating & SURFING a DIY Plywood Surfboard

I've been wanting to build this plywood surfboard for years, but today the scenarios all just came together for a DIY surfboard creating project. Not only did it actually surf it kind of ripped! I am stoked on the creation & excited to try some more stuff like this. Thanks for the stoke! - Ben

It's Chuck! What's up Chucky!! My first board was a plank of plywood that I duct taped the lid of a styrofoam ice chest onto the bottom of it for floatation 1982. The first wave I dropped in on bodyboard style, it gutted me right in the stomach! I spent the rest of the day laying on the beach in recovery watching the other kids enjoy my creation. You are a natural plankman Ben!! mind blown!

I sent you a book a couple years ago. A book I cherish. Inside said book is a photo called "Native Surfer" possibly one if the best photos inside the book. The organization of the family home is fantastic.The drone footage of the whale is beyond beautiful. Recycling plywood is ingenious and inexpensive.The only concern I have is splinter control. What kind of laminate will you be using? If not using laminate, will it be covered with neoprene? Waterproofing is a must but no arsenic treated wood I hope.What we put in the ocean affects sealife so hopefully you, Jordan, Chuck and both Evans will come up with an eco friendly solution ! Reminds me when we would make round skim boards, bevel the edge , paint your tag on it, mix up some powder Weldwood glue, coat it, throw a little sand on it ,then skim in 1/16 inch of water on sand, all the time watching surfers! natural progression!
