Awesome work as always! I wanted to ask a question, this is just something that came to mind while watching this video and it's just something I'm very curious about. It's obvious that the 3D printer had a pretty big impact on your modelling process... How much parts (like in percentage) do you think you'll end up designing and printing instead of "scratchbuilding", not just for this build but in the future..? I guess a more general way to put this would be "How comfortable are you with the idea of designing instead of repurposing?" Do you think you'll ever reach a point where you'll prefer to create the whole piece in fusion, and then dedicate some time to assembly and painting? That would also be a great commercial endevour hahaha. Anyway, your art is really something to be proud of, and I was just very curious to know this kind of stuff because I myself would probably have to strike some kind of balance between the great feeling of matching two scratch parts together, but also the convenience of designing something that fits perfectly. Have a great day, and see you next tuesday!

First of all, thanks for your amazing question! I think the 3D printer is an awesome tool but not the ultimate tool, if that makes sense.. I see myself making an 100% printed robot, but just for the fun of it, as a challenge. The greeblies play a great (if no the biggest) part in my creation process. They add randomness to the process, they suggest me shapes and ways to go... The printer on that context is making the whole process easier, since I can quickly design and print a piece, with almost perfect iteraction with the greeblies... I mean, I feel it's the perfect workflow for me right now! I'm being able to work better and faster with the printer. I won't say I'll never abandon greeblies, cause that can always change, but so far, the printer is making the "greeblies method" even better... Thanks again buddy!!

right past greebling into purposeful design! the fine detail on the thruster’s my favorite part of this build so far. don’t know why, but the way the ship’s turning out makes me think of the fighters from Babylon 5.

That was great to watch the inside fill up with the details and then the primer just pulls it all together. Do you find that with experience you find it easier to avoid symmetry and randomise the placement? Also, the metal trims are going to look great against the painted pieces. Great detail, as always 👍
@CutTransformGlue
@CutTransformGlue 3 жыл бұрын
I think symmetry and asymmetry are both important... it's a balance.. too much symmetric can be boring, and the opposite can be too chaotic!

Hi there. Just a suggestions. I'd love to see some smaller moving nozzle thrusters embedded on the extremities that the ship would use to turn and rotate itself in space. the main thruster is great for forward propulsion but those smaller ones would be what allows it to change direction.

Great Job so far! I will say that the look of all the thrusters all ‘pointing’ in the same direction is a bit overpowering... i mean its already in space you don’t need a lot of thrust to stay in orbit (so maybe tilt the outside ring of nozzles 5-10 degrees from center-out and maybe make the middle one larger...) that being said you could add smaller thrusters some where else on the ship for fine adjustments. BUT you dont have to listen to me ramble... space is weird
@CutTransformGlue
@CutTransformGlue 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree! I mean, I'll add more thrusters to other parts of the spaceship in the detailing phase... Small ones, just to maneuver the ship around
