Be careful believing details and points of view presented from a biased source. What are the odds The National Film Board of Canada is going to make Canada look bad? And why does a country need a “national” film board anyway? Free enterprise, anyone?

The Acadians have been treated badly since. Not only were we expelled in 1755, BUT when we returned, those French who married Native women were never given real Métis status and not considered Métis by many. The rest of North America would rather the Acadians just fade away from memory

Non! is right. Fade away? So why is there an Acadia National Park in the middle, coastal part of Maine, USA? And why are the descendants of Acadians thriving in southwest Louisiana today? Don’t tell any Cajuns they have “faded away.” They’ll send the Cajun Navy after you.

I live in Nova Scotia and everyone loves Acadian celebrations and culture here. There is no anti-Acadian sentiment here that I can see. As for the Métis status, can you think of a reason they wouldn’t want to give disgruntled Frenchmen tax exempt status?

Excellent documentary. It actually shows the real history, not the anti-white propaganda we are taught about our country today.

Real history??? Actually it’s the opposite. This is the glossed over history written by the English victors. What you call “anti-white” history by the Natives and French is what actually happened.

@@Ellen24493 History is written, recorded, and taught as such by the ones who have conquered. Of course it's going to be glossed over. It's narrative. I didn't see where Duncan said that it was the Natives (respectfully, the Indigenous) or the French as groups running around with the "anti-white propaganda." Maybe I missed something. As far as there being a "real" history, I've lost all faith that there is one.
@alainaaugust1932

And this comment is precisely why a balanced history, not propaganda, is taught today. Our white ancestors north and south of the border were often cruel brutes. People of all colors have been so worldwide. They brought their beliefs of superiority and entitlement with them. Read the history of Europe, Asia, Africa, S. America and you’ll find the same thing. You think the Romans crucified many high born Roman citizens? Those in power or wanting it, sometimes white, claim it, often brutally. Ever hear of 21st century Russia? Telling the truth in no way justifies the behavior. By the grace of God, may it help us change such behavior.

@@alainaaugust1932 I have yet to find a legitimate explanation for why so many people in this modern society have become so comfortable in openly expressing their hostility toward others. People are so casual in demeaning someone in public and shaming them, saying that their wrong for having a different perspective. The resulting accusations being made because someone is interpreting their own meaning to what was said or done and has already decided that the person it wrong. "...their beliefs of superiority and entitlement..." That's got to be the most accurate description of what is still going on in the world today.

@@bluesteel8376But native Americans, the First Nations as they are called in Canada, are still there to this day. Land is only “desolate” from a settler’s point of view, not from the point of view of those living there 12,000 to perhaps 20,000 years.

@@alainaaugust1932i am not very knowledgeable about this topic but one would expect there to be less natives living in the regions that have far lower temperatures and thus far less vegetation and prey animals compared to the south where climate is much milder

Politics and our government have us in shambles, food bank usage per month has increased by 300% … more homelessness now more than ever, no one can afford groceries anymore or gas even working 50 hours a week For the first time in our lives our farmers and Canadians who have lived here forever, can no longer afford to live here. Very sad :( beautiful country to visit though. Impossible to live here now

At this point in time there was very little contact with the Inuit peoples. Some explorers and fur traders interacted with them, but it was minimal.

The “More about this channel” section gives no information about the originators of this channel, not even the country of origin, which most channels do give. It is obviously dated and told from one perspective only. As an example, the English colonists did not hold to “the only Indian is a dead Indian” ethic. That saying only came about much later and became current in the far western expansion and consolidation of both countries in the 19th century. The English wanted to convert the Indians, too, but just not to Catholicism. Any country, including my own, the US, if it has done so, of a recent history of abominably abusing its native people in so-called boarding schools would be best advised to advertise to the world its actual, unbiased history. Not reruns with untruths.

This by the NationalFilm board is an illustration of the bias of English Canada. It completely ignore the 1603 agreement between the First Nations and Samuel de Champlain. The presentation invensts reasons that never existed. It sound like a propaganda film. It completely ignore that the europeens wars where the nase of the 7 years war, In addition the slavery n New England was the economic strength of those colonies. Then the protection of french fort is said to be an agression!! pitifull. What does this have to do with Canada?? The title should be change to The conquest of Canada by the British. THIS is bias propaganda paid by the canadians taxes payers. A real shame.
