@@jongarner8073 What exactly is immoral with two consenting adults being in a relationship? How does that involve you? People should have the freedom of choice and not have other people's ideologies interfere with that. If you want to abide by certain ideologies, you have that freedom to, which is great. That's an opportunity everyone should have. Yet shoving one's ideologies down people's throats because that's what you've been raised in is not okay. We're in a country where we are a boiling pot of different religions, culture, mindsets, etc. Stay in your lane.

I’m actually an example that demonstrates Ken Ham’s point about so-called “young-earth evolutionists”. I was taught by and knew some of the people in that group like Marcus Ross, Todd Wood, and Kurt Wise, and agreed with their way of approaching YEC, and now I’ve realized how impossible YEC actually is and am an agnostic who fully accepts evolution and an old earth, lol. However, I do think there’s a world where the “young-earth evolutionist” approach would have allowed me to hold onto YEC longer because it provides more flexibility when you encounter the evidence against it or for evolution, since it allows for areas where YEC doesn’t have the answers or evolution does fit the data without that meaning YEC is wrong. I don’t know, I think it honestly depends on the person and other life circumstances and events which it could be. I’ll also say that unfortunately with how things are right now, I’m worried the culture war angle AiG is taking is actually designed to pull more people in because of how many on the right are just escalating these extremist views. Now AiG can appeal to those people who were on the fence about YEC and trace all of the “woke” culture war issues to acceptance of evolution. Hopefully I’m just being pessimistic though.

Out of curioisty, was there any evidence or information thay you found most compelling about an old earth/evolution?
@imrastar7055
@imrastar7055 Жыл бұрын
@@LDrosophila The evidence I thought was most convincing was the amount of heat that would be produced by a literal Noah’s flood, as well as the rapid speciation that would have had to have happened to go from the “kinds” on Noah’s ark to the number of species we see today in just a few thousand years. Though those were most convincing after I had already mostly let go of my belief in YEC. One of the things that actually got me to start questioning, though it’s not one commonly used and I probably only encountered it because I’m a biology grad student, was genetic evidence for the endosymbiotic theory. Specifically evidence of genes transferred from plastid genomes to the host nuclear genome and the development of targeting signals to plastids. Since I was told that endosymbiosis was impossible (and therefore YEC was true) because it was too complicated for genes to be transferred from the mitochondrial genome to the nucleus while simultaneously needing to develop a system to target the proteins back to the mitochondria, seeing evidence that it was very possible and had actually happened definitely made me start to think that evolution made a lot of sense.

A historical note: the Kulturkampf obsessions of Ham etc have been standard fare in creationist apologetics since the Falwell 1970s. The degree to which it bubbles up to the front varies, but schisms in antievolutionist groups as camps seek doctrinal purity goes way back, all the way to British creationism of the 1930s.
@greenfloatingtoad
@greenfloatingtoad 4 ай бұрын
The kulturkampf issues are also historically tied to antisemitism. For example the Nazis portrayed Magnus Hirschfeld's work in the institut fur sexuellewissenschaft as a Jewish conspiracy to undermine Germany through spreading homosexuality In reality Hirschfeld was a psychotherapist who got tired of his queer patients killing themselves

Yes, Dan, the Culture War-ism that White Christian Nationalist Evangelicalism is currently immersed in is entirely the point. That Ken Ham has joined them was pretty much inevitable given that they both now share a fascist -- or at least fascism-adjacent -- (as you said) "My way or the highway!" approach to who is part of their in-group and who is the out-group.

Exactly right. When you think about it, "evolution v creation" WAS a culture war topic 2 decades ago, which is like a millennium in Internet time. The fact that YEC's are trying to "catch up" to the modern culture war environment definitely shows they're seeing how sparsely populated their little enclave is. This is the "coalition building" step where they try and recruit allies. They'll only get extreme with time because they aren't picky about where they get adherents from.

Carl Jung has an interesting take on the death of religions as they are in their final stages they tend to become more extreme or radicalized as they try to remain in power or relevant in society. Look at what is happening in the USA. Over turning of Roe vs Wade. January 6 2001, SCOTUS and the rise of Christian Nationalism and their head long drive to turn the USA into a theocracy Liberty and Freedom for all as long as you have drunk the Kool aid.

As a creationist, I actually agree with the larger take. The culture war posting is just mud slinging for clicks. It waters down their brand as a science ministry. This has potential to narrow his audience and stop from gaining a new base of any kind. As for Emory, if he breaks the law by calling for violence, then AiG should(and I believe would) let him go. It doesn't seem like thats the case right now, but I would keep tabs on him if his blog crosses that line.
@hivizpies
@hivizpies Жыл бұрын
"if he breaks the law by calling for violence, then AiG should(and I believe would) let him go." I believe you are in fact a sincere creationist because of the 'and I believe would' part of your sentence as I quote it above. After all, the evidence, the overwhelming evidence, is that MANY churches have kept people after calls for violence. Swap out 'calling for violence' for 'committing fraud', or 'child abuse', or 'breaking any or all of the 10 commandments', or or or and churches have not only kept them, but defended them, supported them, enriched them etc. Over and over and over and over and .... and over again. But you absolutely don't see that evidence, let alone would be anywhere near convinced by it, you creationist you, if you did. I'd be willing to bet. Do I win that bet? Also, what 'waters down their brand as a science' anything is the anti-science they universally use and display.

Holy… this is surreal. I knew Harry in high school, went to an IFB youth group with him, and attended the same undergrad at Pensacola Christian College. Harry is *not* a pseudonym, that is his real, full name. His brother, Jeremy, also contributes to his blog. They were considered extreme even in our extremist youth group. He has not changed in the 32 years he’s been on this earth-he still even cuts his own hair and wears his collared shirts fully buttoned up with a crew cut white t-shirt underneath. Amazing.

Hi Dan! Please don't see this as a criticism of your video, but I find myself unconvinced at the hinging argument of this. Are Harry and Emory the same person? How do we know that? In the video I've heard you say that you seem to remember hearing that it's a pseudonym, but hearsay is hardly evidence (although I think it's a weird thing in American law). You also say you're 'convinced that' this is the case, and I'd really like to know why you're convinced of this. Anyone can copy an article, so I'm not sure I follow along with the 'same person' hypothesis, per se. I've been trying to get into the 'be critical of everything' mindset, and I thought maybe you'd welcome my question on the topic. That being said, I've not been in this sphere for long, and maybe there's data that was previously spoken about that I missed or maybe I'm not as inside baseball on this as some are. (Is that a sensible thing to say? I'm not a native English speaker.) Again, I don't mean to be overly critical, it just seemed to me that most of the argument made in this video hinged on those pseudonyms belonging to the same person and I couldn't find the supporting arguments in the video to go with this (other than the text being copied, which anyone could have done). Sorry if I missed anything! Also, in case this isn't abundantly clear, and it really should be to everyone, this 'culture war' thing is distasteful at best and I'm happy to consider myself amongst those living in countries where there's less of it.
