He gives it a 6/10, saying it is slightly better than average but very disappointing given the size of the studio, resources spent, and known mistakes from previous games still not addressed.

Can totally admit feel fairly foolish for trusting they would actually jump back into communication properly and not start silencing people within minutes (as per some reports) of my video going live. I honestly can't fathom how it's getting worse with each passing day you'd think some proper damage control was going to be done right? Hence why I got a tad optimistic when they mentioned more staff were going to be on the forums because the fanbase has been crying out for more communication for a while. A few of my viewers were joking that is the "second End Times" for Warhammer Fantasy and sadly I'm inclined to believe them unless proven otherwise. It's a shit situation, one that could have clearly been avoided if the people making the decisions weren't the ones who have been devoid of reason for a number of years now. To not have this conversation be all negative I do want to say been enjoying your recent videos keep it up dude. you never "owned" physical media, anyway. Just a piece of plastic with data on it that comes with a license to use said data in the limited ways the license holder has intended you to use it. That's why they say things like "for home viewing only" or "commercial use prohibited". You are also not allowed to re-release and re-distribute the data. You never owned any media you haven't authored yourself and the issue here is not one of downloaded vs. physical media, in my opinion. It's just that the vast majority of games are unfree, proprietary software. At least valve provides some decent services with your limited license sheet.

The same goes for if a company wants to forcibly alter something you physically own. With digital media, there's no such guarantee and there are many, many instances of both of these sorts of behavior in regards to digital goods. A fair bit of good has come from ditching the restrictions of physical media, but so too are there downsides thereof.

This kind of steam forums crackdown is normal among companies. Like Bellular mentioned in his video, almost all of what CA does or is doing is 'standard' for the industry (which ironically brings us back to that old buzzphrase of the week, Industry Standard - remember that from a month or two ago?). What makes it inciting is the context and the timing. 999 times they've done this, and 999 times it was nothing and didn't matter. But now it matters because they generated enough 'Go Away Heat' in the audience that the consumer base is actively rooting against them. The most active 'community influencers who would've gone to bat for them as little as a month ago are focusing on other things to avoid the shitshow (CA should thank FatShark for that Darktide update lmao) or are actively throwing furniture into the fire. i started with shogun 1 too. the PC gamer demo magazine in mid 2000. i was in the top 100th of a percentile or something to be first to play TW, and i didnt even mean it. my parents just bought the right demo CD at just the right time. totally agree.

This makes me feel old. I'm 37, started with Shogun on release, and it all felt so good until Medeival 2. Empire was probably the first mis-step, though they were clearly still trying in some areas (ship combat really was a must for that era, but they still did a nice job with it). I got burned hard with Rome 2 and since then I haven't bought a single one at release. I picked up Kingdoms on sale because I live in China and am a fan of the era and it was........... OK, but the actual fights outside of the hero units felt real bland.@@Volound

I've been playing Total War since the original Shogun... and all I can say to CA is "YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELVES!" I feel bad for the collateral damage of the devs that cared about the products, but I have zero sympathy for the so-called "leaders" that drove the company's reputation into the ground. I would prefer a good total war game over company drama, but I'll take what I can get for entertainment.

When it comes to Total War I wonder if the primary issue is the fact nobody ever competes with them. Being a combination of turn-based mapgame and RTS. With the closest thing to competitors generally being uniquely different gameplay wise. Illwinter's Dominions and Oriental Empires having pre-battle orders while Mount & Blade is Mount & Blade. Everything else that's comparable is described as serviceable but not a Total War killer.

I'm a warhammer guy. Played the tabletop hobby for years on and off, love the lore etc. Years ago, when CA started making the setting into a TW game, I loved it. As time has gone on my patience with this company has run out and suddenly I'm a "hater" just because I don't want to give this corporation all my money. Add to that, I played TW long, long before Warhammer (in fact it even predates my playing the tabletop game) and I have seen my favourite history series die on the vine.

This is when we have passed the twilight era of the life-span of a company into now experiencing the era of collapse. All they are doing now is just digging their grave holes deeper and deeper to the point where the light above can no longer be seen. I highly doubt that even Sega would even come to their rescue as am pretty sure they would most likely completely pull away from Creative Assembly as being their parent company as tbh- Sega's own profit is more priority than that of CA and for their own interest would most likely try to mitigate any loses in revenue that CA has incurred before letting the company dying out. The only possible salvageable outcome is if- And only if Sega chooses- Is to sell off CA to another rival company for a good amount to again try and recuperate revenue losses from CA's botched leadership and management these past several years. But who knows- Only time will tell- And we thank you Volound for keeping us updated with further news and development to the Secret Housewifes of CA.
