I remember to this day the battle where, heavily outnumbered, wall broken in 3 places, a leftover unot of 15 dismounted english knights held an entire flank against 4 units of light infantry for an entire battle and did not break, even when there were only 2 left, allowong me to keep the enemy boxed in to het destroyed by yeomen and retinue archers until they ran out of arrows and joined the melee, encircling and chain routing the entire invading army. I had 6 inits vs 12 units I mever retrained that unit of english knights, instead they became a good luck charm for that citadel

the main historical tactic of the late republic was the triplex acies right ? A shame that a game that is supposed to simmulate Roman warfare wouldn't allow you to do that. We need a RTW 3 in which centuries can seemlessly exchange position while beeing engaged to allow us to exchange battle lines just as the triplex acies was designed to do

I appreciate you guys taking the time to do this, and for risking your livelihoods to fight for this franchise. You do it, we do it, because we love the series. We’re frustrated, disappointed, and desperate to see it thrive.

Ye and after going back to Rome 1 after playing the new games, holy fuck the pathfinding is horrendous, all the "collision" in the world can't fix the fact that the units can't move around a settlement map without derping out completely.

39:00 Once they are limbered up, the individual soldiers count as one of the 4 artillery pieces. Every hit on the individual soldier takes hitpoints away from the artillery piece as a whole. Once there has been enough damage dealt, the piece breaks and all soldiers manning the piece die. This can be extremely dangerous when going to melee, as the soldiers cannot die immediately and will fight back hard.

Artillery is OP in just about every total war game. The handlers are absurdly tanky all the way from RTW1 to the modern games, and you often don't need to protect them that actively because they don't rout or suffer any damage from missiles. I get the feeling the lead developers at CA have always expected people to turtle and fight every battle defensively with onagers or cannons behind the main line even in field battles. It's so silly seeing 10 cannon/catapult/ballista handlers fight to the death against heavy cavalry in these games. It drives me insane. It has to be intentional too because it's a problem in every title

Watching you activate suppressive fire on your back unit and then your front two units getting debuffed was painful. Git gud scrub.
@Volound8 күн бұрын
suppression reduces movement and morale penalties. my units were kneel firing so they couldnt move, and my units are all banned from caring about morale when im leading them. those suppressions were the most deliberate thing in the whole 90 minutes. gg + rekt +lrn2play + git gud scrub

Love siege battles in this game. It can feel like the defense has a crushing advantage and to a degree they do. But as I'm sure this video will showcase, it's possible to find good angles, good fights, and win decisively on the offense.
@Dolfy9 күн бұрын
The Med1 historical campaigns are more like puzzles, they didn't seem that great especially when they seem to default to normal difficulty but there is one battle that includes sneaking into a castle packed full of chivalric foot knights which could be interesting.
@thisguy70839 күн бұрын
In the old games. With the heavy cab. The main source of casualties comes from the charge. However if they get bogged down fighting the cav start taking losses. In the new games. The higher tire unite wins

It's about an hour of calm voice and some muted pops from small arms, occasional shots from cannons which are not loud at all. And then suddenly gatling fire so loud the neighbors can appreciate every nuance. Also can't really hear what is being said during it. No harm done and I'm not complaining, these are a great watch and I hope Volound keeps making more. JS if I left the video on and fell asleep, it would be a rude awakening for mine and a couple of other households lol.

This is why I don't like shorts. You won't see any of the head chopping, the gut cutting, any of the sweet combat animations, or javs and arrows sticking outta dudes in Rome 1.

_Limbered Artillery does tend to be hard to kill at first glance. Though I believe that is because the unit is effective four entities with 10 hit points each, hence why t took so much fire, since each gun dies separately and all 10 crew go with it. I think it was a simplification of the unit when in that state._

Kinda depressing reading "2011" release date (obv Fall of the Samurai is slightly newer) and know that this was the best the franchise got, 14 years ago...

Why does this make Rome II a terrible game? I have played all of them up until warhammer I, Rome II is my favourite by far. Rome III if it ever happens, will be on another level. The collision issue always sucks when somebody online decided to run through your unit and flank them, but if you’re an honest player you’ll never do it. I never have.
