I can see the benefit of this when I travel about with a works laptop that doesnt have BT on it enabled, I could use this to bypass this and listen to my KZbin etc delay-free on my BT noise cancelling headphones.

@@mirshia5248 I had to go and look up what APTX is, well to understand what aptX HD is, we need to discuss what ‘classic’ aptX is. It is an audio-coding algorithm, created in the late 1980s, popular with film studios and radio broadcasters. Steven Spielberg was an early adopter, collaborating to use aptX to record audio for 5.1 digital playback for films including Jurassic Park in 1993, and later Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. These days, aptX is synonymous with Bluetooth, which you’ll find on plenty of computers, smartphones, AV receivers, and plenty of other consumer electronics products. What’s the big deal about aptX? Its party trick is the ability to transmit music, full bandwidth, at a ‘CD-like’ 16-bit/44.1kHz. Note that it is ‘CD-like’ and not ‘CD-quality’ because aptX uses compression (which helps to reduce audio-coding delays and minimise latency issues) and therefore, like most other Bluetooth codecs out there, is not lossless. It's also designed to sound better than standard Bluetooth. Classic aptX has a compression ratio of 4:1 and a data rate of 352kbps.

This is interesting. Really interesting. Thing is, I dont seem to get it working with the following setup:: I have the Jabra 65T Active Elite and an Audigy RX soundcard; analog mic or not, it simply doesn't seem to show anything. My desktop soundcard seems to show some signal/noise, however, when the analog mic of the BTW3 is connected, it doesn't seem to work or recognise that something has been plugged in. Is it my soundcard? Is the codec not supported by Jabra? Am i missing something here? The mic ports of the soundcard have not been used in almost 5-6 years now, but is that/can that really be an issue? Would appreciate it if you could dish out some advice.

it might depend on the mode the receiver is in also, the SBC mode is the one most likely to work the other modes are for output only i believe

@mfazlemuniem I'm not really sure what you are trying to do. This dongle is like a soundcard to the pc (and other compatible devices). The shitty mic included need a headset input (one connector for audio and mic), so you won't be able to make it work on an normal input. The audio for this goes out through the dongle, not via your audigy soundcard.

You definitely covered gaming with apx protocols way further than the other videos I've seen but it's important to fully understand, especially when you're trying to setup PC gaming while using $300-400 headphones and expect in-game chat without sacrificing audio quality and still avoiding the lag.

@@zacboyles1396 I was able to get in touch with Creative. It's basically one or the other. You can't have APTX LL while using Bluetooth mic. It's basically one or the other. I don't really have the need for a free-standing mic like streamers do but that would basically be the "work around." Definitely wouldn't mind that setup, having bluetooth APTXLL ear buds and then using a free-standing mic on an arm. However, that isn't really what I want to be spending my money towards at the moment. Just going to deal with what I got in my current PC gaming setup

I have a couple of Google Stadia Controllers that I'd like to connect wirelessly to devices (e.g phone, pc) outside of stadia-use. The only wireless option I can imagine *(which I haven’t tried)*, is maybe some sort of USB-BT transmitter plugged in to the USB-C port of the Stadia Controller, which than can be paired/speak with BT receiver on your device. Would this device work for this?

This is exactly what I was looking for. The problem is that all wireless gaming headsets sound terrible, I've tried everything from a low end hyperx to a top of the line corsair virtuoso xt, they all suck, on the other hand Bluetooth headphones sound great but the compatibility with windows is terrible, windows just does weird things with Bluetooth headphones.

I've looked through the internet and didn't see many problems with that adapter. However, soon after connecting it, here we go. Connected to Razer Hammerhead TW 2021 headphones doesn't change the blue light to any other after pressing the button. Being aware that it might be because they probably don't support it or something, I'm happy to ignore that for the moment ( however I can't find a note anywhere that this is how it's supposed to work). Next thing that makes me want to send it back - can't control volume. Whatever I set as a volume on windows sound controls doesn't matter, unless it's 0 - then of course it goes quiet, but everything above - probably max volume possible. Maybe I'm missing something, but tried I everything I could come up with, and yet nothing sorts any of these issues out. Probably will have to send it back if I don't find solutions to at least the last problem...

Hey Mike. I have the following settings. Laptop, Sony WH-H900NB(h.ear-on 2) headphones. I bought the BT W3 Transmitter because the BT from my laptop wasn't good enough for my headphones. With this transmitter the sound is excellent. The catch is that I don't know how can I use the included microphone. The laptop still doesn't recognize the microphone from the headphones. Where should I plug in the W3 microphone? Thanks

the mic is for use with the switch if you want to use the micon your headset you need to pair it with the headphones as headset not earphones in the bluetooth pairing if supported

The mic included is shit. I recommend avoiding it and use the integrated mic in the laptop. The mic is a trrrs connector, meaning it is the connector used in headsets. In order for you to use this shitty mic, you have to have a headset input in your laptop... Some modern laptop have it (is where you connect the headphones), but some just doesn't and in these last ones you can't do anything about it.

Pointless if it is limited to 16bit in Windows if you want to listen to aptX-HD. Avantree had to make a revision to their device due to this and new version is 24bit but stereo is reversed and a phantom centre channel appears in Windows Sounds CP.

"Ear buds"???????????? If you use THAT, then it does not matter! None are ideal. You need headphones to take advantage of that! If the TV is a Sony, or it has Android 8.0 and up, then I suggest getting Sony headphones, to use the BT codec LDAC! And that can be used with the TV's own BT antenna, no need for a dongle.

This is a great review but this device doesn't solve a problem for me at all. I was looking for something to allow me to game wirelessly on my PC that is hooked up to my TV. As such I was hoping to both send and receive high quality audio so that I could user in-game VOIP and enjoy decent gaming audio. As far as I can see I need to switch to hfp mode (red LED) which is basically terrible quality audio or else run a wired mic. If I'm going to run a wired mic I'm going to just use USB headphones. I feel like upgrading for the Soundblaster Jam to the Soundblaster Jam 2 headphones and pairing them with a BT W3 instead of the onboard BT 4.2 chip was a waste of a fairly decent amount of money.

yes the headset mode on most bluetooth adaptors is rather low end quality. sadly bluetooth in most forms just doesn't have the bandwidth to cope with two high quality audio streams, one is fine but often two is a push unless there is some clever hardware compression on both sides of the transfer. Airpods seem to do reasonably well in this configuration using AAC i think it is

Just got this, and thought it would work as a regular bluetooth as well. Plan was to connect my phone, to use as a remote that has been using wi-fi. And to get a wireless xbox controller to connect to my pc. Phone not finding it when i try to pair using the 2s press. And in windows i don't see it as a bluetooth device.

it will be seen as a bridge if anything but it isn't a bluetooth adaptor in terms of the PC seeing it as a bluetooth adaptor but the link between it and the bluetooth device is using the raw bluetooth protocol

@@mikesunboxing Like a bluetooth device, that works without needing the connected device to control it. Sorta a standalone. But connectivity functionality is limited because no software. I like that, doesn't bog down my system with mostly useless services and stuff. Well, ordered that Microsoft Xbox Series X Wireless Controller. Worst case it'll connect via USB-C, and i'll buy another thing for that. Nonetheless this is a useful gizmo. Tired of my Astro A40 TR headset, it's heavy, wired and warm to wear. Going for some light AptX LL next.

Hi, your video indicates the BT-W3 will work with the SXFI Air Headphones. Which codecs will work with them? Also, if BT-W3 is paired with a non Aptx protocol device then will the dongle still be able to switch to various codecs? I'm troubleshooting mine and I cannot get it to work except in standard SBC mode. The damned thing will only stay in SBC mode and cannot change.

This device is certainly a step in the right direction. I am so sick and tired of new Blutooth revisions that do not address the single biggest problem. Why in the hell can we not get bi-directional / handsfree with high resolution audio and low latency?! There are plenty of wireless gaming headsets that sounds about as good as AptX but also transmit in the same quality. If BT 6.0 comes out without codecs for this as a mandatory part of the specification they might as well never release another update.

It just pisses me off that windows only does sbc, even with the new widows 11 edition. There is no reason for them to not have other codecs supported in the OS. It would be down to the individual manufacturers to upgrade their network/bluetooth devices to these codecs.

Not really. Probably your device just doesn't support it. I thought the same when I bought it, then I remembered that I have an aptx headphones and they do make the dongle to shift to green light, in win11.

It is a thing of the bt dongle and this is one of the reasons I bought this, because you can actually immediately know if you are using other codec different than sbc. And Windows see this dongle as a sound card, so win11 can't change the codec. As for other windows... I used to use Asus BT400 dongle in the past with Mee Matrix headphones and I never had delay issues, thus most probably I was connected as aptx all the time.

Hello, i have a problem with my headphones on my Mac Mini, i cannot use stereo and the mic at the same time. If i join a call, the quality of the sound is reduced so i can transmit audio at the same time. This happens because macOS does not have the required aptx codecs. Can this dongle fix this? MY headphones are aptx HD compartible. Have you tried using the mic at the same time with stereo?

You can't use aptx and mic at the same time. The best approach is to use the bt headset as only headphones and use the internal mic on the mac mini. If it doesn't has, you need to use an external mic connected to the mac. There are some cheap ones that can do the work. I recommend samson go mic if you want something nice that can be used far away.

actually managed...and expected a lot better sound on the headphones as previously was paired with BT 2.0...so I returned the headphone.My Buds pro was better quality through the dongle. Thanks for answering, though. Appreciate it. on a hunt for a Dj headphone🙃🙂

Isn't this device more of a Bluetooth receiver? It receives a bluetooth signal and gives the signal to the pc? Does it actually transmit a Bluetooth signal?

bluetooth i believe works as a bi direction connection so you can receive the data but also send data such as volume adjustment requests and various gestures like the assistant etc so i would think it is possible

It is mainly more a transmitter. The audio generated in your pc/device is transmitted through this dongle to your Bluetooth headphones or bt speaker. Yeah, it can receive the audio of your bt headset, but I wouldn't recommend to do that, because the audio will be shitty in most cases.

This is not a "pure bt" dongle, it is seen as a soundcard, so you wont be able to pair an xbox controller and use it as a controller (probably just as a headset "output"). This is a nice test that I haven't done, of course I already know it wont work to make use of the controller as a controller, but I'm curious as if the xbox controller will work as an audio interface.😂

Does anybody know if you're actually able to use the microphone features on an AptX supporting Bluetooth Earbuds while BT-W3 is in AptX LL mode? Or does the mic feature only work in HFP mode? Is HFP mode overriding the AptX LL audio codec or are they both working simultaneously?

yes the mic support will be in HFP mode i don't think Aptx LL supports mic at the same time, i could be wrong though

@@mikesunboxing its actaully now. I just found out that when you use HFP mode, it removes AptX LL. So it'll be amazing for Bluetooth Earbuds for audio when using AptX LL. But in order to use microphone in a gaming type of setup, they will unfortunately have to use a freestanding mic. Since I don't believe HFP mode has low latency has AptX LL

My concern is that the song may lose quality, since IOS can only reproduce the song with AAC. Did you notice an improvement over the normal iPhone bluetooth? Aac is already better than aptx. What you need is a better bt connection, one with ldac for example, although I don't know if iphones can manage it
