So I backed this on Kickstarter after seeing this video. Once it arrived I promptly plugged in to my laptop and external screen. The lag was horrible, so I packed the Hyper Mirror up and put it away. Today, I decided to try it out again - this time with iPad Pro and a TV. This time it worked as advertised - until I laid the iPad flat on the table, which cut the connection completely. It was then that I remembered that in my first test the laptop itself was placed between the receiver and the transmitter. This leads me to the conclusion that the 60 mm wave has the same weakness as the IR - the receiver and the transmitter must see each other at all times. Hopefully this limitation will be removed in the future version of this technology.

One major thing to note, millimeter wave does NOT go through solid like WiFi would. You need a direct line of sight between the receiver and transmitter for this to work effectively. If that line of sight is broken, the connection will be interrupted or dropped. ASUS has actually released something like this already with the ROG phone. Millimeter wave (mmWave) is also one of the few implementations for 5G networking.
@TheHappyKamper4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was just wondering about this.
@HumbertoSaabedra4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mmWave has been a concept talked about for over a decade as the basis for IP-based cellular telephony and data connections. The biggest issue has always been overcoming the inherent coverage limitations due to the exceptionally high frequency used to transmit/receive data. At this point, carriers are just building out 5G mmWave cellsites every 500 feet in the city centers and nearby suburbs with existing fiber deployments while using lower range radio frequencies for broader coverage at the expense of lower speeds. I genuinely wonder if this device would interfere with any nearby mmWave cellsites and devices.

I can wave my hand in front of it and cause the stream to drop out. Need to maintain constant line of site between tx and rx. - They only provide you with one really short usb c cable meant for phone use. Would've been nice if they provided a slightly longer cable for tablets/pc. Also, I think the cable might be unidirectional. - TX and RX need to be 'paired' every time it is turned on . A simple button press is not an issue for most, but I was hoping to use this as a super easy solution to allow my parents to display their phones on their tv. I hope this isn't a dealbreaker for them :P. Other than that, it's pretty great! Only time will tell if it is slowly cooking my insides.

But I am guessing that a few companies out there will be following progress and so expect it to become something that we will see more of over the next couple of years. The fact that it has not only taken what is essentially a no name brand to bring it to any kind of market in 12 years is quite astonishing since wireless everything has been one of the great goals for a long time now. You still need to hook the system up to power and the system is usually next to the monitor/tv your gaming on so whats one extra cable hdmi? @@SnoopKatt I mean, think of it this way: If you have a laptop that you carry around with you but also like to use with an external monitor when you're home, this would be a great way to do that without having to deal with extra cables. Just sit down and plug the device in. Seems like it could have some real uses
@Dougget2 жыл бұрын
I know it's silly but in 2022 I think we should have sort of a standard protocol / build in wireless adapter in every device, at least high end ones, like what we have with bluetooth for audio, we take for granted that any audio high end device comes with that.
@wessrocket59564 жыл бұрын
6:10 Zero lag is a big claim and in this case is false. You can clearly see that there is latency when the guy is clicking in the smartphone (look at the pink light at the screen), if I can see it in video there is no way there is no lag, and that's a big no for gaming.
@Wolficefang4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just putting "0" in their marketing claim for latency alongside the very precise numbers for wifi and Bluetooth felt very sketchy. This might not be an image from the company itself. You can find it at 2:07 in the video. Even just stating "

It looks like it works for non-gaming, at least, and I'm pretty sure it would be good enough for my docked Nintendo switch. (I'm really not picky)
@askolds114 жыл бұрын
If you want to cast your screen to PC(although no audio), try scrcpy, with a cable there's no noticeable delay, you can also run it over wifi, but then you can see some latency.

For those of us that like to have the Nintendo switch on a doc at a side table or on a nightstand this is perfect. You can have your system right next to you to use in portable mode or to change cartridges or swap controllers.

2:10 mmWave is often used for better 5g connection :)
@mrbungle19904 жыл бұрын
You could use it in an arcade control panel that you use on your lap on your couch (or a Pandora's box 9 or something similar) that has a raspberry Pi with emulation station built into it, then the image would just appear on the big screen without the need to run an HDMI cable across the floor. That is what I would use it for.

I would love to see this work with a Xbox Series X and a PS5 a couple rooms away. Does MS Auto HDR work? Will you show Dolby Vision if it comes from a device that has it?

This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Yeah, I know there are others, but not at this price and w/0 lag. I'm sold!😎💨

This tech and wireless input will turn desktop pc's into strategically placed multi-room Desktop-As-A-Service. Integrated versions that can piggyback existing bluetooth input devices onto it's existing bandwidth (very very small packets) could share resources, making better use of these insane gpus that are becoming less and less production constrained already. Concerning extending range, repeaters or nodes on the end of fiber optic based USB cables or similar could be employed. Whatever is required to keep the latency low.
@nonnygb4 жыл бұрын
Amazing. I've used these in the past and they've all been junk ware due to latency. Seems someone finally nailed it.

My mind is blown! Input/video lag IS the only thing stopping me from using my phone for all gaming up to ps2! This device could change the gaming world!!! Slap in a large SD card and go to town!
@Uno_Floydd4 жыл бұрын
This is so rare. Zero lag. FOR GAMING. LATENCY AND GAMING GO HAND IN HAND. I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GAME WIRELESSLY BECAUSE OF LAG. THIS MIGHT CHANGE THAT. FINALLY. The only thing that comes close is the screebeem mini 2
@nickyliner9993 жыл бұрын
8:35 Maybe things pop up faster on your monitor because the monitor has a higher response time or refresh rate over the laptop. If this is the case, the latency is so low that it's actually faster to use the receiver than your laptop and the latency could be determined by testing this further

Great Demonstration. I started off somewhat skeptic, but you definitely changed me into a buyer for this device.

seems to work perfectly when the device is right next to the display, but it is meant to be used at a distance. You should test how it works from across the room
@KD-bk7gd4 жыл бұрын
He literally talks about the distances tested in the video, it's towards the end bro. He said there was zero latency tested up to 20 feet, and then it drops off fast after that.

It looks like they have this tech working quite well. And the monitor you were using looks a bit more responsive than the one on your laptop. Now if they could use this tech to make game controllers and headphones instead of using Bluetooth...
@sl1ckk1ll3r4 жыл бұрын
Latency will be lower due to 60ghz millimetre wave, but it will crap out when something ever so slightly blocks the receiver, just due to the nature of high frequency wireless transfer.

This would be fantastic for mirroring my laptop to the projector in my classroom. Could be anywhere in the room (within 16 ft of course), no cables, very handy.

I wish this tech could be combined with a fully wireless touchscreen Monitor. One day I want to be able to have my high end gaming rig stream to a Tablet or Wireless Screen and be able to fully take advantage of my rigs power wile in other parts of the house with Zero Latency. The possibilities are endless... for instance an at home server setup with wireless workstations? 4 family members wirelessly connected to 1 Main system all browsing, gaming, watching movies on their 15" tablets/Monitors with the 1 PC/Server doing all the heavy lifting.

looks like it may be useful for VR headsets if they can produce a version which can transmit a USB signal and pass through power to power up the headset.
@hf71884 жыл бұрын
this seems pretty cool, because i have a old laptop that has the first gen of intel screen cast technology, but it really never worked, and once i updated it to windows 10, it was disabled completely. Since that, i got a Samsung 4k TV which i hoped to be able to connect to watch movies and TV shows from the laptop wireless, but not i could not find any add-on tech. This might be it, if there won't be any restrictions in terms of the HDMI output.
@zxcvb_bvcxz4 жыл бұрын
The Kickstarter says the maximum (theoretical?) bandwidth is 3.96 gigabit, so it's going to be doing some kind of compression for sure. Would love to get a look at the PCB.

I recall valve with its Steam Link operating in the same regard. It basically cast my desktop computer to my big screen TV. I was annoyed because that wasn't exactly what I was hoping it would do at the time. It used ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. but this seems like a much better version of that because you can use phones as well as computers.
@Treychik4 жыл бұрын
the price is much reasonable. A year ago there was another device that was over $200 I think that used same technology...don't remember the name, but couple of tech channels had their ads there. Still - I'll wait for release. All my previous backing was not really 'fun' :(
@nukem1704 жыл бұрын
Immediately backed it after seeing your video. Better not let us down. If this really work, I can use my regular PC between the living room, dining room and may be even the patio with just a portable monitor and a wireless keyboard.

Cute Product, has its uses as you have described. I just bought a Wireless HDMI Extender, 5G, 1080p HD Wireless Transmission. reasonably priced and available online now. I am more than pleased. It has the transmitter unit and the receiver unit, both with two antennas and need plug power included. Range of 300ft line of sight, It will transmit HDMI signal in to receiver HDMI signal out. Be it a raspberry pi, TV set top box, recorder player, or I use it to transmit the security cameras to a screen in the bedroom 60ft, one exterior brick wall, four interior walls and one floor. with excellent clarity, no delay. it is out of the box, plug and play simple. No idea if it would work using a phone source, have not had reason to try that.

I would use this to run a Car Video System. Using a low power monitor attached to the Headrest (Lepow 15.6"), as well as a SBC designed as HTPC. This way the SBC and Monitors can be powered off of standard 5V power for a travel HTPC. And with Wifi tethering, we can download movies as we go.
