speaking of multiband IRs, guitar cabs tend to honk at 600hz range so the phase cancellation might actually help if you tune it right, and as a bonus you might also remove the harshness and other problems that come with several factors which contributed to the capturing process.

About resampling being the term for varispeed/tape-style pitch shifting, I can see a probable explanation, although I don't think I'd associate resampling with varispeed. It's exactly the lack of initial "re"sampling that produces the result. It's usually done (at the low level) by adjusting the samplerate of the sound. If you were to set the samplerate, without "re"sampling, it would change the pitch/speed of the sound, hence why varispeed shifting a sound lower and lower starts to lose fidelity. At the end, we would resample from the new sample rate, e.g., if our original sound was 44.1k and we wanted an octave down, now our samplerate would be 22.5k, to 44.1k.
@DanWorrall Жыл бұрын
This is not quite correct. In this case we want it to speed up or slow down. But the sound needs to end up back at the project samplerate, so the sped up / slowed down sample needs to be resampled back to that rate.
@mixenne Жыл бұрын
@@DanWorrall You're right, thank you for the correction. I didn't explain it quite well. My point was that it is the lack of "re"sampling initially that produces the results we need. Edited my original comment. Thank you for the video, too. 🙏

Yo Dan, great to see you! I was thinking about your separation trick but can`t set it up when hardpanned doubletracked guitars conflict with some mono instrument. Any tips here?
@DanWorrall Жыл бұрын
I always process hard panned guitars with mid side EQ on a bus. Try notching problem frequencies out of just the M channel. The more MS EQ you use the less the guitars will be actually hard panned afterwards, but I usually think the results sound better regardless.

Oh Dan, you make my day - each time I watch one of your videos. I was on the edge of my seat when you loaded in those guitar cabs - unfortunately you used the word "obviously" every time when I was like "WTF? Why is this working this way? And how this parameter now controls something entirely different?". Christmas would be early this year if you could elaborate a bit more about what goes on there - I mean, apart from the obvious ;-)
@DanWorrall Жыл бұрын
Sorry! Gain controls as EQ: if you split the signal into three different bands, then boost the gain for just the high band, that's like boosting a high shelf EQ. Instead of one gain control you have three, each controlling just part of the spectrum. Ducking: this is actually compression, but the dry input signal feeds the sidechain of a compressor processing the wet output signal. With a reverb impulse that has a long tail that means the reverb is ducked for the duration of the dry signal then rides back up afterwards. But a guitar cab impulse has no long tail; timing wise it's much the same as the input; so the ducking reverts to just being compression again. Was there anything else I should have explained better?
@shaihulud4515 Жыл бұрын
@@DanWorrall Thanks a ton! No need to explain anything else more in depth - at least not for me; your explanation really made things clear for me. May I add one thing? i wasn't interested in reverbshaper before but the fact that the IR resampler is smooth is tempting. normally this is not the case in convolvers because recalculating the entire IR is an expensive non-realtime-friendly process. can it be automated in this plugin? i don't expect that to perform well, but would be cool if it worked at all. also i'd like to add smth to your statement that you could also just automate the gain on a reverb send without this MSEG. yes, butthen it wouldn't be sampleaccurate. your squary curves would produce an inconsistent sound on larger buffer sizes on transientheavy material. that's why plugin-internal modulation systems are mostly better than DAW-automation
@Cableguys Жыл бұрын
Actually we considered allowing to automate the Size slider (and the Decay slider), but then we think that for automation the CPU hit would be too high (a small CPU spike while moving the sliders is acceptable, but with automation it might give a bad experience). Thanks for noticing that you can edit those without any silence gaps!
@Beatsbasteln Жыл бұрын
@@Cableguys without silence gaps and without discontinuities in general :) still no automation, but i guess with the smooth sound i could at least record a performance on that knob

@@DanWorrall how do you get rid of the latency? Is your audio interface zero latency? What are the preamps like? Forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions but I'm just curious to know for my own self because I have an audio interface but the preamps are not very great.
@DanWorrall Жыл бұрын
@@Bradleybrookwood I think I see the confusion. There's no such thing as a zero latency interface. But most can run low enough latency to feel real time: it's the buffer size that matters there. When a plugin is referred to as 'zero latency' that means it doesn't add any extra latency on top of your interface latency. If your guitar feels responsive without that plugin it will still feel responsive with it. I usually record guitar via a tube guitar preamp, which then plugs into a line input on the interface. But I have a little focusrite 2i2 for my laptop bag, and the preamps / hi Z inputs on that are absolutely fine. There's a lot of nonsense talked about preamps and budget interfaces, but even the cheap ones are good these days.

Of course I had to go buy it after watching 20 seconds of the video. However, discovered something weird. I loaded the "Character Gated 3" response and realized that I am using it on a perfectly centered snare but after Shaperbox the snare is panned a bit to the left. Then I went through some more and there are more of them tilted. Mainly to the left but also found one to the right (did just check 5-6 responses) . Is this normal? Or is it a bug?
@Cableguys Жыл бұрын
You are right - that one is panned a little to the left. We'll check that out and fix it in an update - thanks for bringing it to our attention! Note that some of the IRs do have a different character in the left/right channels, so they can sound stronger in one channel or the other depending on the input signal’s frequency content and how it interacts with the IR’s early reflections.
@saardean4481 Жыл бұрын
@@Cableguys Hi there. Well as I wrote, It was a 100% Mono snare. So it's weird that it added so much on one side. Also some other presets were the other way around. And I felt like switching back and forth that it was like there is some kind of randomization going on cause every time I went back and forth it seemed to get a bit different. Dont get me wrong, I love the plugin and purchased it . However I dont trust it 100% . It's ok to deviate a bit on one channel but if used on more it can accumulate into something not so funny anymore. Tbh I cant remember having another reverb that makes such a weight shift to one side
