I have a question referring to the last example: if I wanted to do a maternity shoot using these same concepts would I need to use a strip box to highlight the back of my subject (belly)? Or Would the flash plus the pink color gel work alone to highlight the subject?
@neilvn4 жыл бұрын
In the final examples, Dave used the bare flash with the gel as the rim-light. A stripbox would give a more gentle gradient to the color, but I don't think it is that necessary with a process like this, because the colors and contrast already make for an abstraction away from the reality of a more "normal" portrait. (I hope this makes sense.) So you could easily use either bare flash or a stripbox. I hope this answers your question.

The fan I mostly use in the studio is the Vornado neilvn.com/tangents/recommends/vornado-fan/ There's a photo on this blog article which shows what it looks like: neilvn.com/tangents/lighting-a-white-seamless-studio-backdrop/

Nice one Neil. What are the best settings for a corporate standard shoot in studio?
@neilvn5 жыл бұрын
I keep it to very safe settings, shooting usually around f/8 tp f/11 at 100 ISO

There is a real art to capturing women of color. Although I understand you're trying to show the use of gels... but I want to showcase my model, her look should be STUNNING and the gelled lights accent her beauty. No one is ever going to say, "Wow look at those gels." Just my two cents. I also have a question for you, what are the pros of shooting a model at 1/10 of a sec. Thanks
@neilvn5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand your comment, but I can answer your question. I wanted the slow shutter speed so that I could capture the swirling motion of her hair, since that was lit mostly by continuous light.
