Dear Professor, Thank you so much for your amazingly detailed and comprehensive video, you are making a genuine effort in simplifying and taking us to the point for maximum benefit, and what makes your explanation the best is your Terminology, especially the part when you explained about the safe fail mode, and also the brain storming short questions! Wooow, Please keep uploading more videos, you got a fan and supporter here,

A video on things to consider when choosing and installing a limit switch would be awesome!

Sure thing. I've updated the description with related videos, but here's the circuit design link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXKoial8m62spKs

I have two roller type limit switches that are used in limiting the stroke on my automatic tool and cutter grinder . I replaced one limit switch due to the roller no longer rolling since the bearing failed . The limit switches reverse the drive motors direction causing a continuous back and forth action. The issue I'm having is the change of the motors direction is not immediate. It lags . What then happens is the metal pieces that make contact to the rollers on the limit switches is pushing on the mounts that secures the switches in a desired location. Can you explain to me why this is happening please . Thank you

Hard to say exactly, but there is usually some over-travel after initial contact with a limit switch. The mount needs to be designed so that a bit of over-travel doesn't damage the mount. So, unfortunately, the best answer is to remake that mount so it doesn't interfere.

Your setup is nice but explaining how an open circuit has flaws could have been done with some wire, motor and power. When you show the open circuit, you are not actually showing what is happening , only the result.

I know this is a year old… but I’m in need of a switch that will reverse a dc motor… back to its home (switch).

Hmmm... it's tough to give a sure-fire recommendation, but you likely need a DPDT relay switch that can flip the polarity of the motor //and// be interrupted by the home switch. Take a peek at this video for some explanation of a similar circuit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXKoial8m62spKs . Hope that helps a bit!!

@@creativeconners I simply appreciate you taking the time to answer. My wife and I, both from theater, are opening an electric shooting gallery, with an Alice In Wonderland theme. Thus, I’ve spent the last year trying to build animatronics and other moving things… this wasn’t something I spent a lot of time doing in theater. I mean, I wish I had… but now it’s a crash course and one that is sorta higher than my IQ.
