I sometimes find it so hard to price my work as a designer. since its all digitally made, people assume that means less work or cheaper
@CreativeHiveCo4 жыл бұрын
Isn't that so unfortunate, Mariam? A lot of people don't understand just how long it takes to make that digital file look perfect.

For comparing prices to other artists with similar styles, mediums, and subject matter (same for originals), what if the the work the artist makes is less commonly done by other artists. Seen a number of videos mention comparing prices to other artists, but no one mentions where to go to do that and what happens if your work is less common.
@CreativeHiveCo Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel! Great question! If your art style is unique and not very common, it may require some estimation and market testing. As a start, you can pick the closest style you can find and work your price around that (if you think you can price your art a little higher than the market, go for it). My blog here could also be helpful for you: www.creativehiveco.com/how-to-price-original-art/ Good luck!! ❤️

This is super helpful and made me realize I’m way undercharging my prints. My issue comes from the fear that people won’t buy them because they are much more expensive then my neighbors. I use the highest quality paper and printing from a place called simply framed. A simple 8x10 print cost me about $18 compared to most artists who seem to get them printed for $1.50/print! I guess I feel like people won’t but my prints when I’m selling them at $36 for an 8x10 when the person in the booth right next to me is selling them for $10. Do you think people would understand after I explained the great quality?
@CreativeHiveCo Жыл бұрын
Your ideal customers will definitely understand why your products cost more. They're paying for the quality and value of your work! It shouldn't be compared to lesser quality products. ❤️ If no one's buying your products in a craft show (if this is what you meant by "neighbors"), it's more likely that you're not in the right section or craft show where most of your ideal customers are.
@danecory1236 Жыл бұрын
@@CreativeHiveCo This is great to hear. Yes, I was referring to a craft show. Maybe it’s important I really take into account that I only sign up for shows that have higher quality/cost artwork so that I fit into that audience. I do abstract paintings. Thank you!

Hi Dane! I completely agree. It's important that your ideal customers are at the craft shows you plan to join in. All the best to you and your business!! ❤️

Look forward to the video about pricing original artwork. Can you also consider what to price if you do limited edition (like ill make an earring design max 10x) or if you sell only ooaks? :) curious how i can also get feedback from people on my prices etc! Thnx for sharing. I do underprice. Upping my prices could make an impact on scaling up to better materials that i just cant afford now
@CreativeHiveCo4 жыл бұрын
Art is definitely a tricky category to price! For limited edition or OOAK, your pricing should still follow the same formula - account for your materials and the time it takes you to make each piece. Because these would be special pieces that you aren't replicating hundreds of times, then your cost will probably come out slightly higher because you would still be working out the design process on each one, which can account for extra time.

Hi. Do you maybe have an advice how to run business as single artist during vacation? What can help to prevent a possible drop in sales and negative reactions from customers in that point?
@CreativeHiveCo3 жыл бұрын
You can put up a banner on your site that says you will be away, that processing will resume on this date, etc. You can put that as a pop-up, in your thank you email, on your social media, away message, etc. Just be upfront about your shop absence and most everyone will be understanding.

Thank you for sharing. What’s the printing services you use? Or you do printers?
@CreativeHiveCo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Angel! I actually make polymer clay food jewelry, so I'm not using printers. But both are valid options depending on what is going to work best for you. Some like the control of printing on their own and some want to outsource that part so they can spend more time designing. It's totally up to you!

I am a watercolour artist starting a business selling my art work. I am looking at options to sell prints of my originals but don’t know where to begin. I brought a scanner to scan my work but don’t know which sites to go to. Do I go to sites like red bubble? Or a print site to get the prints sent to me and I produce the goods to customers. I also don’t have a website yet and I am looking at my options and doing the research first.
@CreativeHiveCo4 жыл бұрын
You could do both. Drop shipping companies are handy for people who want to order your art on a wide variety of products, but you could also have physical copies yourself that you ship out.

A couple more things. When you are selling prints your price point doesn't simply affect your own bottom line. It impacts the community of sellers. It's a continuum. Also, altering your price point impacts previous sales. If you lower your price you are negatively impacting the value of existing collections. A big no no in most gallery circles.
