Just visited Chongqing China. Amazing food. 144hr transit visa free works. Better yet, my 10 year Visa works again. Hotel no longer exchange USD to RMB. Needs to do that at some banks.

You can definitely work in China if you secure a job before arriving. There are lots of English teaching jobs for example. The business visa is harder to obtain as you will need to buy or bring over a business visa

Most ATMs will dispense cash from international cards but take at least a hundred dollars to begin with, this will cover a taxi to your hotel and food for the first few days

Wonderful! How long are you in Beijing for? The monastery isn’t in Beijing itself it’s in a province called Henan. Your best bet would be to take a speed train from Beijing to Xi’an, spend a day or two there seeing the Terracotta Warriors and then look for either a day trip to the temple from or head over the nearest city called zhengzhou and visit the monastery from there 😊

Bring layers, the days can be a little warmer but it can get quite cold in the evening. I would pack a nice warm jacket and scarf/gloves

Oh no way! Sorry to hear that! We have never had an issue with it but haven’t been recently. Did you have the latest update? When we lived there, we found you had to always make sure you had the latest updates otherwise it wouldn’t work

No you don't have to declare your laptop. Similar to all countries, if you are bringing in new, sealed electronics then you would have to declare but used personal items are fine and you won't need to declare.

Hi Gloria, China can be a challenge to travel to and around in comparison to other destinations in the world. Right now, you aren't able to enter the country but before covid, obtaining a visa to enter the country was quite a process. Once you are in China, there are ways to travel around with ease but we learnt these after living in the country for two years. Without knowing about Didi, CTrip, VPNs and WeChat, it can be a challenge to explore the country.

You can get away with learning the basics but yes I would recommend learning a little as it will make your time a lot easier!

Actually, the Google translate app and its website are both accessible in Mainland China so does the web version of the Google map and Google earth 🤓.

Whilst living in Mainland China for two years, the Google translate app/webiste only worked when using a VPN unless you downloaded a whole language dictionary.
