People's opinions are usually based on their personal experiences. When someone says never, it means that they haven't had it happen to them. This doesn't mean that it can't happen. Please trust me when I say your situation can change literally in a second. I tell every woman I know to always be prepared for a confrontation, whether a person or an animal. I've been a victim of both. Simply having pepper spray would have changed the entire situation. My advice is "Don't live scared, live prepared". Great video, thank you!

Those of you having trouble hearing, if you are watching on a phone or tablet place it in a bowl. The bowl acts like an amplifier, think amphitheater
@anashomestead59196 жыл бұрын
Wondering do you think that would work with pc speakers too? lol
@shelleynunn41236 жыл бұрын
Ana's homestead i havent tried it but if you have a big enough bowl it should work. However i would only do that when really needed, because if you play loud music on a pc speaker in a bowl you might blow the speaker.

Ear buds solved my hearing problems with this clip
@Milesco6 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that solution, but I don't think it would work because the problem is the signal-to-noise ratio, not the overall volume. You can always make it louder, but you can't turn down the wind noise that obscures what the people are saying.
@bevr21644 жыл бұрын
Putting in a bowl makes sense.....I could hear them talking, I just couldn't understand what they were saying, and I have a hearing device in my ear ( which is an amplifier. I think ear buds are the way to go, then you don't miss anything 🤗

Hi great video I hope to be full time one day but as a caretaker for my Mom & Dad (Divorced) I can't just leave my Dad has Alzheimers and lives with me for last 10 years and Mom moved to my town to be closer to me, 3 years ago I found Bob Wells channel (when he was with Jamie) and everyday since then I have been planning for my new life I have bought 4 different campers a Astro Van High Top-1960's Canned ham both of which I sold I presently have a 1994 Suburban and a 1999 Chevy Conversion Van I also have a 5 by 8 Cargo Trailer. In the end I'm pretty sure I will end up with the Suburban-Cargo Trailer combination. I'm telling you this cause while living as a Nomad is a Minimalist Life its easy to hear about a product and click a button on Amazon and 2 days later its there. I have spent way to much $$$ and have so much stuff it got to the point I was ordering stuff I already had. I finally had to stop and realize that planning for this new life was a way to have Hope for the future and when I was down I got a little happiness with each purchase and then it went into my pile of stuff. I know this is long but if you are in a situation that you cant leave right away don't buy STUFF until its time to go! All you need to start is a Rig-/Bed/ Sleeping Bag/ Cooler/Phone Then as you move on you will know what to buy and save a Lot of $$$ for Travel! Again Sorry! If you made it to the end Much Peace & Blessings

Thank you, Robin and friends. I started reading blogs and KZbin videos a couple of years before I took the dive. I took a few trips to visit family and friends the first year. Then I stayed in an RV Park near family for about a year. Finally got my nerve up to attend the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in January 2018 and found so many friendly and helpful people. Quite an education, plus I was proud of myself to take that step. I’m shy and kind of a hermit usually. Thank you for this informative discussion. I have a Verizon Jetpack, but still have concerns about needing more to get a good signal. I rewatched your video, Robin, about your test of the three antennas. I may need to do that. I’m out there boondocking to save money and pay off debt, but also I wanted to do more and see more than just reclining on my bed and knitting - which I still do for my Etsy shop. Thanks again. Your timing is priceless! I just told my business coach that I have a 2-year exit plan and at that time I want to get a van and haul a trailer that converts to a greenhouse so I am hauling my organic garden and just travel. She asked how I would support myself... my response, "I could do it today and support myself with my skillset. This I know for a fact." It was liberating to claim that reality and you just reinforced it for me today. Thank you.

Editing tip. If you preprocess your audio in something like Audacity, you can add an equalizer effect and drop the low end off while boosting the midrange a bit. That will cut way down on the low frequency wind noise and bring the vocals up to prominence.

I've been a 'stationary nomad' for about 8 months now. I'v been fortunate to be able to live in my 26 foot RV for this time to figure out what works and what doesn't work without having to also be on the road. I've started recording some videos of things I've learned in the process. For instance if you get an older rig there are things you'll want to take care of, like making sure it's as water tight as possible and switching out older lights to new LEDs. I've got more videos coming of other things I've learned regarding solar and energy management on a 'solar budget'.

I'm in the process of preparing my RV for full time life and I watch these videos religiously! I'm trying to get my RV set up for me and 3 cats; I have approx. 2 months left to take advantage of having tools, power, wood, etc. before hitting the road. I've already made my storage compartments accessible from both the inside and outside of the RV. I've also redesigned a wall unit to hold my collection of Great Books, including putting on plexiglass doors to keep them in the book case in the event that I hit some sharp turns or bumpy roads (or the cat decides she needs to sharpen her claws on them!). Following Tiki's advice of "like things with like things" I use little containers for tools, screws, scissors, cords, etc., and have them stashed within that book shelf. I've mounted a rail system that allows me to have a table/counter of sorts that I can easily adjust for height and storage during transport. Next I'm going to build one or two special hideaways for my cats. One of them really hates storms so I know he's going to need to hide away as much as possible when the rains come. For him I'm going to take one of his favorite sleeping boxes and I'm going to put it below my couch and put in a cat door of sorts so he can slink in there and hide. Any other tricks or ideas of things you wish your RV had???? I want to build in as much as I can while I have my tools and materials. Thanks!!!

I felt comfortably welcomed. Thanks to Peggy and Lisa for sharing their info on this topic. Just go for it. I am studying all that I can about this lifestyle from KZbinrs, especially women nomading by themselves. I'm going to take my first trip out into the mountains here in Colorado in the Fall to photograph the Aspens. I'm eager to do it!
@OffroadGirl6 жыл бұрын
I was around Buena Vista all weekend and the leaves are already changing. Even yellow leaves on the ground. It seems so early! I was bummed to miss the Boyd Lake gathering but I'll be at the Santa Fe one. If you're looking for lots of aspens to photograph, the road next to Clear Creek Reservoir is easy enough for a car (though probably too much for a motor home) and the scenery is amazing. Big mountains around a relatively narrow valley, with healthy pine trees (mostly) and lots of aspens. I think next weekend will be perfect, or the weekend after.

I'm not ready for winter just yet! Seeing the leaves changing already (and having nights in the 40s) makes me wonder if winter will be early this year. I definitely want to do some winter camping, but there's no way I'm driving on snowy roads. Yikes!
@KimberlyLetsGo6 жыл бұрын
It's been rather wet South of Denver so I'm not really surprised if Fall starts early. I figured it would, surely, be pretty though, with all the moisture on this side of the Rockies. I wouldn't mind doing some winter camping however, I'm car camping for now until I get a rig. That would be WAY too cold!! And, I wouldn't be able to sit outside. So, I know my car camping plans are going to be coming to an end soon.

Work for 50 years for a “maybe” retirement. I ended up on disability in 2011, and my husband will retire next year at 59. We will be part timing it on the road. We have a home we built for retirement while we were in our 20’s and used it as a cottage on Lake Huron with 3 acres of land, It is paid off and we will sell our home in the dirty in the spring. Then we can get into our 5th wheel and travel. But now because of my health I have to be back in my home state every four weeks to see a dr. I have to go all the way back to Michigan and can not be seen in any other state due to the nature of the issue, which means that traveling is going to be much more difficult. There won’t be the opportunity to live on the road. I guess if I can find cheap flights I can come home for my appointments and fly back to meet my husband but this is going to cost a lot either way. So I also say do it while you have your health! You don’t know when you will lose it.

This was great. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear Peggy very well, especially with the wind blowing. But I see you know that and tried to fix it. It’s so interesting, I just want to hear everything lol.

You ladies inspire me! I bought a 30 ft bumper pull in 2012 and was ready to hit the road!... I let other people talk me out of striking out on my own, I let them make me scared of even trying! I lived in it for 1 year then sold it. Watching you let's me know I don't have to be afraid (and that I was doing it the wrong way too😯). Thank you for what you do, with a little planning I will be on the road again!

Thanks so much for this, Robin and Friends! It was really great to see the differing perspectives on this whole issue. Actually, I would love to see some interviews with people who did NOT like this lifestyle, and why...Wouldn't that be interesting??

I really enjoyed that discussion. The lifestyle is SO appealing, but there are things about it that are just deal breakers for me. I honestly believe that I will have a hybrid nomad life (don't ask me to explain what that looks like) at some point. Responsibilities are the only thing standing in my way, but I obligated myself and I intend to fulfill my commitments. So, in the meantime, I watch videos, write notes, list pros and cons, draw pictures and generally make myself CRAZY over the idea. Thanks for the videos. You make'em, I'll watch'em! 🤓

Me too. Also I've had heart attacks and heart surgery (triple bypass just over a year ago) So understandably, my daughters would worry about me. So I guess I'm relegated to just living this life thru you guys.

I'm an intermittent nomad. I have a small van, just enough for me and eventually a dog. I'm on the road for 6 weeks to 3 months at a time. The goal is to be on the road about 40% of the year. I'm an artist so the van is also a mobile studio. The rest of the time I'm tending to the obligations of an art career, of debt, and owning a sticks and bricks house on 4 acres. I live in a rural area on a river near a smallish town. all around are great outdoor places, mountain, desert, river, hiking, camping so I have the best of both worlds. I'm a 77 yo female who travels solo, boondocks with a 100W solar panel and one battery, a porta potty, a garden sprayer shower and I carry up to 17 gals of water in containers. In miniature I have all the conveniences of home, a bed, a kitchen, bathroom, dining and a sitting area plus the outdoor room. If I ever get out of debt I'll rent out the house and go full time.

I'm 77 and planning an intermittent road life. Like you, I own a SB house, rural land, great outdoors places, etc. I have ordered a 16' trailer and will travel solo most of the time. FortunatelyI I have no debt, but I do have livestock. Years ago, I owned a motor home which served me well, but I hated driving it. The trailer presents additional challenges - hitching it up, backing up, and more. But I love learning new things at this age, don"t you? See 'ya someday??

Good conversation!! Very helpful. I love people and I had worried about that. being alone. But I have gotten over that. I do stay in RV parks once in a while and people are all over. I enjoy it but I do look forward to getting back out where I am alone.

Such a great video format. I’m late to the party, but this is a great video. Maybe throw this concept into your repertoire a couple of times a year. It’s been 2 years so I bet you’ve got a lot more topics to raise.

The one thing that does not come out specifically is if you don’t like the life style (and you have the resources), you can quit! Be part time! Or as with Lisa, change how you do it. Few things are set in stone. If possible, before radical actions, try it for awhile. You will know. Either the learning and challenges are life affirming or a horrible chore.

Great video and great questions. I have been a wannabe for several years. Finances keep me tied down though. I keep at it and keep trying to figure a way out on the road. If you ever get the opportunity to do this type of moderator style video again maybe ask about health insurance?? I would be very interested in what you and others do for this please. Thank you for your videos!

I would like to hear how each of you are managing your mail since you live in your travel vehicles, how you manage other important documents (e.g.1099s, IRS taxes, driver's license address, voter's card, etc) and if any of you know about/participate in solo women travel meetup/groups. Thanks in advance. :-)

I would also be interested in the solo women meet up/groups. I enjoyed the comments of being near people but still having distance.

I have used the Escapees RV Club for my mail forwarding service. This means I use that address as my legal address, so it’s on drivers license. I have been happy with it. I let them know when and where I want my mail delivered. If I have an accumulation of mail or a package, they email me. Robin, what do you use? Thank you for all your wonderful videos. I learn so much.

The film industry deals w/ these issues all the time. There are private postal companies which also supply a street address that mail your parcels/mail to you for a fee. You can go to a DMV wherever you are to update info. You can do your taxes wherever you are. Bring records w/ you.
